In Sydney, Vision is also using 64kbps with EEP 4-A on SEN’s spectrum allocation. It has replaced SEN VIC.

I wonder if all big bash matches will be on SEN 1170. On Sunday nights I tuned into Melbourne to hear the cricket as Sydney had a religious show. Now SEN FAN exists on dab it probably doesn’t matter now. (This is if I didn’t have access to a phone)

The audio sounds mono, is the dab channel in stereo? Can’t tell with the radio I have now.

Yep - stereo broadcast but both left/right channels are the same.

I find it a little surprising they haven’t put up Vision180 (their youth-oriented station) on DAB instead of/in addition to the standard/main stream Vision programming.

Given the latter is already available on AM in (parts of) Sydney and Melbourne.

Both Vision + Vision 180 on the Brisbane multiplex.

Is SEN Fantatic still on air there?

One thing perhaps is whatever the deal was for how the networks deal with the 36 station per multiplex limitation discussed back here Digital Radio - Technical - #1403 by RFBurns

9A is at 33 stations, but SEN are quite overrepresented despite not having bought any excess capacity, having 8 stations in the combined SEN/3MP space, which is the most that’s possible for all stations to have equal access.

Math and references to capacity units...

So this is annoying to calculate with the difference between “bit rate” and actual capacity. Stations got allocated 1/9th of the multiplex, which is 128kbps at the typical EEP-3A, or 96CU.

When the excess capacity was auctioned this was in 32kbps chunks, or 24CU.

If owning access to 24CU gets you 1 station, the math works perfectly - SEN/3MP have 192CU / 24 = 8 and 36 * 24CU = 864CU, which is the total capacity of a multiplex.

RSN and Nova would be entitled to another station, as well as one more community station to max out at the 36.

On 9B the Triple M redirect puts SCA over their maximum if the above was the case, but maybe they are free to do that until another network decides they want to use it, 9B is only 30 stations inclusive.

No, just SENQ, SEN VIC, and SENTrack on Bris. multiplex

I prefer this as opposed to some “christian” stations that might play a newsboys or matthew west song every 15 mins and throw the odd bible verse in post news. regardless of what you think of them, Vision serve there market well and defiantly fit the narrowcast bill

They do use 4A to squeeze in more stations but haven’t done the maths but agree they seem to be over represented on dab.

Definitely or defiantly? There are arguments for both.

And decidedly, distinctively and distinguishably!

There should be a dab+ radio station that specialises in 50’s,60’s and maybe 70’s pop rock?

I don’t disagree, but suspect theres not enough demand/interest given the snall amount those eras make up on commercial radio playlists these days.

I’m sure there’s probably an internet radio station or two that would cater for this.

WLNG out of Long Island, New York plays a broad mix from the 50s until the 90s; I’ve even heard the odd early 2000s hit on there. It’s good ‘old school’ radio with jingles and personalities as well, though they’ve toned that aspect down a bit in recent years with a change of ownership.

WLNG during the day and Radio Caroline at night is a good way to go, if you want a break from the same old same old. These correspond to the times when live DJs are on at these overseas stations.

Closer to home, the Wayne Mac run Retro Stream (weekends only) runs plenty of 60s and 70s feature weekends. Unfortunately there’s no announcing here, though sometimes he plays retro jingles and advertisements.

Too bad Geelong doesn’t have a DAB+ transmitter on its own, they would have 3GL with its 50s and 60s music! Hopefully soon they will be on air full time with a live stream and website (unless they lease 1341 to the likes of Vision, RSN, SEN Track or the like).

Mildura has or had a station on 1611 called Old Gold. I looked for their website but all I could find was a site in Chinese with a big porn ad at the top.

You could try Smooth Vintage or Magic / 2UE / 4BH.
