Little Fox was a special project for the extended lockdown in Melbourne. It was never intended to be long term. That’s why it had local branding and was never replicated elsewhere.
There was plenty of rock in the 00s: Powderfinger, Silverchair, Grinspoon, Creed, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, Wolfmother, Kaiser Chiefs, Bowling for Soup, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Simple Plan, Coldplay, Jebediah, Spiderbait, Something for Kate, Regurgitator, The Living End, Jet, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Kooks, All American Rejects, even U2 and Bon Jovi had some hits.
There was also plenty of indie/soul acts too such as Empire of the Sun, Gorillaz, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Gerling, The Polyphonic Spree, Passion Pit, Augie March, Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio.
Plenty of artists and music from the noughties to make a successful radio station.
Not sure if this will work as it will cannibalise the successful Triple M Classic Rock, which plays a lot of 80s.
I have a softer spot for early 80s New Wave (sub-genre of punk rock?) too bad it only lasted 5 years.
But to me Soft Rock surely should include rock ballads and they were the most popular form of rock in the 80s/90s, so disappointing MMM Soft Rock doesn’t rate well then.
I think they are still airing those awful “Love God” voiceovers at night too?
I’d like to think that is the reason.
The music is good, but that smarmy voice is an instant turnoff.
It appears that changes are being made to the commercial and community stations multiplex in Canberra. Currently the commercial stations are all silent, the community stations have vanished, and a Test channel has appeared.
Edit: The community stations have returned. So far the only change is the name of the multiplex is now - DAB Ensemble -, and we have a Test channel.
Though I wonder if Buddha and The Edge are simply “upsampled” versions of what’s on the network feed, so may not really sound any better than in other markets?
I think it’s more like the return of a test channel? Because it’s to my understanding that one (which I believe was a simulcast of Mix 106.3) was on the trial multiplex before Canberra DAB+ services finally became permanent…maybe a couple of years ago?
Not really sure what’s better: Canberra with fewer stations and higher bitrates or Sydney with a number of our stations being silent (most if not all of 2SM’s extra channels) or of content very few people are likely to ever listen to. OK fair enough have community stations like 2OOO and 2MFM on Sydney DAB+ but do we really need stuff like Niche Radio, SEN Melbourne, NTS or Radio Maria?
My guess in regards to what’s going on in Canberra with the DAB+ multiplex is that the engineering teams with some of the local music log and talk skewed Radio stations are just running some tests on the studio playout feed. Equipment
