Are we going to see any cyclone coverage of Fina as it’s expected to hit Darwin?
Funny that no network bar ABC has Darwin bulletins any more.
Seven and ABC had live reports from Darwin this morning on the approach of Cyclone Fina. Today had brief mentions in news reports and weather.
ABC first to report the cyclone upgraded to category 3.
According to the online guide, ABC Darwin has been running rolling coverage since 12pm yesterday, and will continue until at least Monday
Radio coverage will now be coming from Adelaide with Jo Laverty until 5pm - Lyrella Couzens, who did the morning shift, will be back then.
Edit - sounds like Jo has been flown up to Darwin to assist with coverage
ABC TV or Radio?
Radio
Coverage also on some regional ABC in NT :
Plus:
Tuned in 11pm local time last night and…
Wouldn’t take much stock in it. They have to go all night tonight though because the situation requires.
Cyclone Fina was number one story at 5pm on 10 but had to wait until after the first ad break on Nine.
Josh Holt working on a Saturday for the weather event. Do 10 have anyone in Darwin?
Sydney reporter Hannah Taylor filed a report about it so I’d assume not.
7 Melbourne which broadcasts to Darwin had a really good report and live cross in first segment.
Actually so glad now that this is a massive and very major event, that Cyclone Fina got its own thread, similar to Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this year.
I’m suprised 10 got Josh in for a Saturday bulletin of all things but kudos where it’s due.
How well do 10 rate in Darwin typically is there any way of knowing?
Wonder why they’re not simulcasting 105.7 on the NC overnight like they did with Alfred?
Good point. I’d assume they have access to the 105.7 feed still.
But hey, ABC News channel gonna ABC News channel
Actually, I think I’ve worked out why they’re not simulcasting. Just checking the stream, currently some guy from the newsroom is singing a lullaby, while the host has promised both a live dating show and to play Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain, for some odd reason. Very poor emergency broadcasting there.
