Cyclone Alfred - Coverage

Not like 10 to be on the front foot here and getting this information out early to confirm their coverage.

Good to see, wonder if 7 or 9 will bother sending anything out.

Good point, especially if the mobile towers are down, thus broadband and wi-fi internet is not available.

I noticed seven news are going to ads half way through these announcements.

10 really stepping up with live and local rolling coverage …something they haven’t done in a while. Leveraging Brisbane and building the experience they’d going to need. Good to see the capacity of the reporting team being built up with such coverage. Good they’re also going live into markets rather than delaying.

The Seven Network’s 7NEWS has Queensland covered as Cyclone Alfred barrels towards the South East, with extended bulletins on Seven and 7plus – bringing Queenslanders the most comprehensive coverage of a once-in-a-generation storm.

Today, Seven’s afternoon news will be extended by an hour from 4.00pm, with rolling updates from our team of reporters stationed across the impact zones.

A special edition of 7NEWS with Max Futcher on the Gold Coast, and Katrina Blowers will follow at 6.00pm, featuring expert analysis on the cyclone’s path from 7NEWS Meteorologist Tony Auden, as well as all the day’s other news from Australia and abroad.

On Thursday and Friday, Sunrise will be live and local from 4.30am AEST with Matt Shirvington hosting an extended edition from the Gold Coast.

Seven’s comprehensive coverage continues throughout the day, with a special edition of The Morning Show and Seven’s National News at Noon – live into Queensland.

I am not across today’s developments, but why does Seven seem to be situated on the GC? Last night it was tracking north of Brisbane. I understand GC will be impacted, but why do they have their main anchors there today?

The greatest winds are to the south of the centre coming off the water. The last track had it crossing at the Redlands “between Brisbane and GC”.

Quite impressive for Queensland to start with a 6 way live cross.

So far this week we’ve had multiple shocking things.
First was Alfred beelining to SEQ
Second was Peppa Pig’s family having a baby

This takes the cake though, 10 being on the front foot with news coverage.
In a market outside Sydney.
And it’s being advertised well in advance.
Kudos to 10 here, doing a good job.

The only thing that would surprise me more if they dropped 10 News First Breakfast as a one-off for this.

Very different top headline/bulletin opens in Melbourne tonight:

Seven did Qld Cyclone coverage from all angles, first report was Sydney/national-tailored from Chris Reason; there was also a local perspective Tullamarine Airport live cross to Tyra Stowers and a cross to a Gold Coast reporter.

While Nine ran with a local major freeway motorbike accident / traffic impact story.

Seven’s National News at Not Quite Noon

Why is Crisafulli wearing a jacket?
It’s not cold (it’s humid) and it’s not raining.
