60 Days In

The latest series of 60 DAYS IN premieres on Foxtel

The ground-breaking documentary series and global television phenomenon, 60 Days In, follows innocent participants who enter the dangerous world of incarceration.

The popular Foxtel series exposes what really happens behind bars, as participants live among a jail facility’s general population for 60 days – without officers, fellow inmates or staff knowing their secret. Hundreds of around-the-clock cameras planted throughout the jail capture this unparalleled access, in a unique effort to bring problems to light and provide a first-hand look at prison life in unfamiliar and often terrifying surroundings.

Foxtel is streaming all 11 episodes of the newest Season 5 from today On Demand, and also screening weekly on Crime + Investigation Wednesdays from August 28 at 9.30pm. Season 5 is set at the Pinal County Detention Center, deep in Arizona’s south-western desert, close to the Mexican border and dead centre of America’s drug corridor. It is the 3rd deadliest jail in America, five inmates have died since 2015, and a Detention Officer was brutally stabbed 21 times by inmates. But there’s a new sheriff in town, Sheriff Mark Lamb is a cowboy hat- wearing, God- fearing Mormon with 10 years of law enforcement under his belt. He’s determined to reform this jail and believes that implementing the “60 Days In” program will get him the results he’s looking for.

In order to do so, Sheriff Lamb recruited a savvy team of men and women to help him investigate the inmate population and the jail system itself. Jazmyn, Abner, David, Mark, Vivian, Steve and Brooke will be the Sheriff’s eyes and ears on the inside, and each one brings a unique skill set that makes them the perfect candidate to infiltrate, identify and disrupt the weaknesses inside in the jail. From a former-Gang-Member-Turned-Chaplain who served more than 15 years in prison to a 60 Days In super fan, the Sheriff is leaving no stone unturned and assigning each of the seven participants one of three specific missions. While inside, the participants will focus their intel on drugs, gangs, and jail operations, and they’ll have 60 days to do it; if they make it that long.

All 16 episodes of 60 Days In Season 4 are also currently available to stream On Demand on Foxtel. Series 4 is set in urban surrounds at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia housing approximately 2,500 inmates. The Fulton County Jail has a heavy gang population with the Bloods, the Gangster Disciples and the Crips being the main forces in the pods. Filming takes place in two different facilities, men are housed in the main campus building in Atlanta whereas women are housed in a separate building about 30 minutes away. The nine innocent participants are locked down for 15 hours every day with their cellmates. Men are housed in two person cells. Women bunk in cells with seven other inmates.

Debi Marshall Investigates Frozen Lies

Starts Tuesday 24 September at 8.30pm AEST

In an explosive new true crime series, investigative journalist Debi Marshall explores one of Australia’s most sensational murders – the case of the Lawyer in the Freezer. But as she searches for the truth, Debi’s investigation spirals into a horrifying web of abductions, serial killings and cover-ups linked to the highest echelons of society.

With far reaching repercussions, including several 30-year court suppression orders being lifted, Debi Marshall Investigates Frozen Lies is a must-watch, locally produced series premiering exclusively on Foxtel from Tuesday, September 24 – available to stream on demand or watch on Crime + Investigation.

Jim Buchan , Foxtel Group General Manager, Factual, said: “Our latest true crime series is as timely as it is confronting. A seemingly straightforward case that has revealed so much more. We often believe these kinds of shocking crime stories don’t happen here in Australia. By exposing their existence we begin to find a truth in our collective awareness. An awareness that can begin to improve our society and hopefully help in preventing these possibilities reoccurring again.

“We’re lucky to have found such an intrepid investigator in Debi Marshall who, having lived and helped solve her own crime story, is driven by a profound sense of the importance of getting justice. Thank you also to our producing partners Media Stockade who’ve done an amazing job, as well Screen Tasmania.”

In 1979, the case of the Lawyer in the Freezer rattled Adelaide’s legal profession to its core. Flamboyant, gay, criminal barrister Derrance Stevenson was found sealed in his kitchen’s deep freeze, having been shot in the back of the head. His young lover David Szach, just 19 years old, was convicted of murder and served 14 years in prison.

But for 40 years David has fiercely maintained his innocence. Now, with his appeal soon to be heard, David wants Walkley Award-winning author Debi Marshall to re-examine his case and what he claims is a gross miscarriage of justice.

Debi’s determination to fight for justice for victims and their families started after she helped track down the killer of her own partner in 1992. Debi’s emotionally raw and confronting story is also told across the series.

With the help of FBI-trained criminal profiler Kris Illingsworth , Debi begins to peel back the layers of Derrance Stevenson’s double life to reveal a grimy world of organised paedophilia and pornography. In doing so, she comes across a series of unsolved murders committed by a shadowy network known colloquially as ‘The Family’. Despite the horrifying scale of crimes, only one perpetrator has ever been brought to justice.

As her investigation closes in, Debi goes behind bars to confront convicted Family killer member Bevan Spencer von Einem – the first journalist to do so in 30 years. And in an incredible twist, she successfully overturns decades-old court suppression orders to reveal the names of important individuals mentioned in the von Einem trial.

From the sleepy streets of Adelaide to the dusty moonscape of Coober Pedy and finally, to the azure waters of the Adriatic Coast, Debi leaves no stone unturned to reveal the truth of who killed Derrance Stevenson – and why.

Produced by Media Stockade exclusively for Foxtel, with funding from Screen Tasmania, Debi Marshall Investigates Frozen Lies is a 5x60 minute documentary series available to stream on demand or watch on Crime + Investigation from Tuesday, September 24 at 8.30pm AEST.

To accompany the series, Foxtel will also be launching the Frozen Lies podcast from Tuesday September 17. This gripping podcast reveals Debi’s investigative process and additional material to the series, while also following Debi’s new leads as she chases fresh information, tries to lift further suppression orders, and attempts to bring justice for the victims.

Wrongly Released: Free to Kill

Crime + Investigation’s Newest Foxtel Original Series

Starts Thursday 27 February at 7.30pm AEDT

In an explosive two-part true crime series, Wrongly Released: Free to Kill highlights the failings of the Australian justice system that allowed two vicious predators – who had already been proven dangerous and locked away for violent crimes – free to roam the streets, and ultimately led to the deaths of three innocent women.

Sisters Laura and Colleen Irwin were brutally stabbed to death in their home in Melbourne’s western suburbs by parolee William Watkins . Following the murders, Watkins went on the run, eventually being shot and killed by a WA Police Officer.

Sarah Cafferkey was killed by Steven Hunter – a man who had already murdered and served 13 years in jail and who was released to kill again. Sarah’s death, just weeks after the brutal murder of Jill Meagher, helped start a tidal wave of pressure on the justice system that led to lasting reform and real change.

Featuring emotional interviews from friends and relatives of the victims, along with insightful analysis by legal experts involved in both cases, the series shines an uncomfortable light on a justice system and asks how it failed the public and why?

Jim Buchan , Foxtel Group General Manager, Factual, said: “Our latest CI commission illuminates an important alarming issue stemming from within our legal system that continues to reoccur in Australia. A problem that has huge ramifications where criminals are re-released time and again on parole only to go on escalating their crimes in harming women and their families who will pay the ultimate price. These cases are tragic yet sadly are similar to those that continue to be reported in news stories from around the nation. We thank Peter Stefanovic as well as SKY NEWS for their support.”

Hosted and narrated by SKY NEWS’ Peter Stefanovic, Wrongly Released: Free to Kill is produced by Title Role Productions Ltd exclusively for Foxtel and is a 2x60 minute documentary series available to stream on demand or watch on Crime + Investigation from Thursday, February 27 at 7.30pm AEDT.

FORENSIC FILES II

Foxtel is bringing back true crime’s most iconic series

Premieres Thursday 28 May at 7.30pm double episodes

The world’s longest running, most successful true crime series, Forensic Files , returns to Foxtel with all new mysteries to solve from Thursday May 28 at 7.30pm – available to watch on Crime + Investigation or stream on demand.

Long considered the gold standard of crime and justice non-fiction programming, the popular series returns after an eight-year production hiatus with 16 intriguing new mysteries. Narrated by acclaimed film, stage and television actor Bill Camp , Forensic Files II will feature the same format and story-type that made the original series a cult hit, utilising cutting edge forensics to crack the most baffling criminal cases.

Jim Buchan , Foxtel Group General Manager Factual, said: “As the popularity of the true crime genre explodes worldwide there remains one show that continues to set the highest standard for perfection and performance, Forensic Files. Its winning formula exemplifies the reasons why audiences continue to remain fascinated in the genre. Riveting storytelling around incredible cases that always ends with a great pay-off. We get to see how excellent forensic detective work actually cracks the case, solves the crime and convicts the killer all within 30 minutes.

“To be able to take one of the original and most watched true crime series and give it a 2020 refresh is a great moment for our Crime + Investigation brand and its fans. A special thank you to our partners Gary Lico, series creator Paul Dowling Metstar and Turner HLN.”

Forensic Files was a ground-breaking forensic investigative series when it first launched in April 1996 under the name Medical Detectives. Covering a mix of high-profile killings, medical mysteries and tragic accidents, the show helped pioneer documentary style crime-science shows, examining how cutting-edge forensic evidence techniques like DNA, fiber analysis and blood spatters are used to track down cold-bloodied murderers, terrorists, and rapists.

As with the original series, Forensic Files II will continue to break down crime cases with the help of scientific evidence and improved forensic techniques, while using dramatised recreations to explain the story behind the cases. After a record-breaking performance in the US when it recently aired, the series has just been renewed for a further two seasons.

Double episodes of Forensic Files II will air each Thursday at 7.30pm from May 28, available to watch on Ci or stream on demand. Viewers can also catch up on the original series, with all 14 seasons of Forensic Files available to stream on demand from tomorrow.

Seven is producing a new season of Crime Investigation Australia with Matt Doran.

Season 30 of Cops starts on Crime + Investigation tonight.

C21 reports Crime + Investigation has bought two shows from Cineflix Rights: Green River Killer: Hunting the Monster (4×60’) and Killer Cases seasons one and two.
