The Renegades will be the designated home team with the match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to begin at 2.40pm local time and broadcast live to Australian viewers on Channel Seven, 7plus, Kayo Sports and Fox Cricket from 8.10pm AEDT and 5.10pm AWST.
Both Australian networks will send commentary teams to Chennai and JioStar will broadcast the match to Indian viewers.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the fixture alongside his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the MCG this morning.
“The season opener for this summer’s Big Bash between the Melbourne Renegades and the Perth Scorchers will be played in Chennai on Saturday, the 12th of December, and it will kick off a week-long G’day Namaste festival of Australian sport, culture, and business engagement,” Albanese announced.

Code Sports reports tonight that Cricket Australia has decided to schedule next year’s BBL final on January 26, following two years of no major cricket match on Australia Day. BBL boss Alistair Dobson said CA would work with the home club and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cricket Advisory Committee on sensitive issues surrounding Australia Day.
The full BBL fixture will be released this week.

For the first time, BBL Cricket will be played at Junction Oval with the Renegades v Hurricanes game scheduled on 24 December.
I wonder if the BBL match can steal a few viewers from Carols by Candlelight.

I just realised that Tom Morris got the world exclusive of this sacking. According to an age article McCullum might commentate the Aus v NZ series and he’s previously been with 7cricket. So that’s could be how Tom learnt that the sacking was going to happen soon
You can expect Baz to be holding a microphone come the Perth Test in December, not long after a white-ball series between Australia and England.

Moises Henriques will represent the country of his birth, Portugal, in the T20 World Cup qualifiers.
He will play for Portugal during August’s European sub-regional qualification tournament in Finland, facing the likes of Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Israel.
The 2028 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, will feature 20 teams, including two European qualifiers aside from England and Ireland.

Cricket doesn’t do anthems for domestic games. So it’s normal for BBL final to not have the anthem.
Like people were making it seem like because it’s happening on the 26th of Jan they are not doing the anthem when in reality it’s never done for BBL games.
So they complain about the date getting special treatment (by not having an anthem) when in fact they want special treatment by getting the anthem played

The ICC has announced a change to the new format for the 2028 Men’s Twenty20 World Cup with the introduction of two eliminators before semi-finals. The new format comes with this:
Group Stage: it will be five groups of four teams, replacing the four groups of five teams from 2026 edition. Top two teams from each group qualify.
Super 10: two groups of five teams, playing a round robin format
Eliminators: remaining two semi final spots to be decided through a new Eliminators round with second place teams facing from their own group against the 3rd place teams in opposite groups

Under the revised structure, the three lowest-ranked qualified teams (Teams 12, 13 and 14) will first compete in a round-robin ‘Super Series’. The winner will join the remaining 11 teams in the next phase. Round 2 will consist of two groups of six teams, with each group playing a round-robin.
The top three teams from each group, along with the next highest-placed team across both groups, will progress to the Super 7 stage.The Super 7 will feature a single round-robin involving seven teams. The top four sides will then qualify for the semi-finals, with first playing fourth and second taking on third. The winners will meet in the final.
