Continued poor attendance would be a good reason
I should have worded that better, I meant why would they play away from a capital. I’m all for moving matches to Hobart, Canberra, Darwin more regularly.
Cricket Australia announced this morning that Mike Hussey and Lyn Larsen would be inducted into Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
Basil Zempilas OH LORDY!?
Perth’s Mayor herb wants a Day-Night test now
Pakistan now possible favourites for the second test with an Australian capitulation of the top order.
Hamza on a hattrick ball and Australia now 4/16 only a couple of overs after lunch with a lead of only 70.
Going to be a very interesting afternoon hopefully followed by a Hobart Hurricanes win tonight where I’ll be there to witness!
Whilst watching the cricket, I noticed that the Australian top order batsmen collapsed in the first few overs where Australia sat on 4/16. Opener Usman Khawaja dismissed for a second ball duck! I have a feeling that Pakistan will win this Test match.
Would be great for the series if Pakistan did (so that it’s 1-1 going into the 3rd Test), but their batting and bowling is a bit inconsistent.
Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh rescued Australia’s innings putting on 153 for the fifth wicket. Marsh was dropped on 20 and made Pakistani bowlers pay, scoring 96 before he was caught in the slips. Smith was dismissed for 50, three balls into the final over of the day.
The Aussies are 6/187 at stumps, leading the tourists by 241 with two days remaining.
Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat may be forced to play their BBL finals away from home due to venue clashes with the Australia-West Indies test series, if either team or both qualify.
At least this has turned more interesting than the Perth Test and Day 2 and 3 have rescued a boring Boxing Day proper.
Keep dreaming Baz… No way Seven, Foxtel and CA would agree to this, with the time zone and daylight savings in some markets making it even worse, it’d go into late night and early morning!
I think it would work well for eastern states TV - would cover most of prime time evening.
They’ve had Day-Night Tests in Perth before.
A D/N Test will be good for Indian viewers next summer in Perth starting at 12:30pm and finishing at approximately 8pm
Though 8pm WA time is still 5.30pm IST, but an improvement on finishing at 3.30pm Indian time.
The first test versus New Zealand in 2019 was a d/n test in Perth.
Started at 1 local time and finished at 8pm.
I tend to ignore Baz’s comments about anything (including sport) he’s an absolute fool to say the least. Logistically as you said it’s impossible. Just like mating a cat with mouse - the mice will explode.
Yet has literally occurred just four season ago, so logistically possible.
Since you’re enjoying Melbourne, have any plans to get along to the cricket?
Went to the Big Bash game last night between the Hurricanes and the Stars and I have to say the crowd atmosphere at the beginning of the second innings was the best sporting atmosphere I’ve ever experienced… even without any Mexican waves. It even topped our experience at the JackJumpers NBL game on Monday which had been our best experience up until that point!
I have to say though, while it could quite possibly have been our family attending both games which caused the losses but I really think when the rain happened and changed the score required last night it was heavily weighted towards the Stars. 63 required from 7 overs with all 10 wickets when the ground was slippery causing fielding to be much harder. This was shown early on where Maxwell could have been caught twice in nearly as many balls.
Any thoughts on how wickets could also be taken into account for when a game is severely reduced under DLS? I know it could be seen as sour grapes and I don’t think it is, it was just made more obvious last night that when the game is heavily affected it does change the balance considerably.
Agree, I think the Stars should have been asked to chase 80 or so with all 10 wickets still available off just 7 overs.
Would just need the DLS method to be rejigged.
