It was a great weekend for the England cricket team, after the women’s team won the Twenty20 match against Australia the night before.

Australia had themselves to blame. They didn’t put enough runs on the board in both innings, three top order batters (Warner, Smith and Labuschagne) struggled to score, and bowlers Scott Boland and Todd Murphy failed to make an impact.

England bowler Mark Wood was named player of the match for taking seven wickets for the match, including five in the first innings.

So now both men’s and women’s Ashes series remain alive.

On the same day, Sri Lanka thrashed Netherlands by 128 runs in the final of ICC World Cup qualifier in Harare, Zimbabwe, although both teams have already qualified for the tournament proper.

That’s the problem when you have too many Test venues across a country.

Well, it does have more than double the population of Australia, so you would naturally expect more venues?

The women’s Ashes series is well and truly alive, after England won the first ODI by two wickets in game one at Bristol overnight.

Australia won the toss and batted first, and made 8/263 from their 50 overs, led by Beth Mooney who scored 81 not out. In reply, England made a fast start and were 1/103 in the 13th over, before losing wickets in regular intervals. But a 32-run partnership between captain Heather Knight (75 not out) and bowler Kate Cross (19 not out) ensured the home side reaching the target with 11 balls to spare.

The result means both teams are tied at 6-6, and England now have the chance of not winning the ODI series, but also the overall series.

No I appreciate that, but so should they. It’s nothing new that venues miss out when The Oval and Lord’s will always hosts a Test or two.

Would’nt it be Great if the Auckland Council head to Greece and buy the 4,800 Seats and Most of the Stands that were used for Softball at the Athens Olympics back in 2004? Cricket Stadium with former Olympic Seats.

Sounds like an incredibly expensive thing to do.

Also, considering the stadium looked like this nearly 9 years ago, it would be so much cheaper, easier, and safer to just build new. From The Guardian: Abandoned Athens Olympic 2004 venues, 10 years on – in pictures | Sport | The Guardian

Australia defeated England by just three runs in the second ODI at Southampton, and in doing so retained the Women’s Ashes trophy.

Sent in to bat, Australia were stuttering at 4/102 in the 22nd over, but half centuries by Elysse Perry (91) and Annabel Sutherland (50) rescued the innings. Georgia Wareham then smashed 26 runs in the 50th over to finish at 37 not out, and lifted her team to 7/282. England’s Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell each took three wickets.

The home side again made a fast start in their run chase, before spinners Ash Gardner, Alana King, Wareham and Jess Jonassen (who bowled 35 overs between them) slowed down the run rate. Gardner and King finished with three wickets each while Jonassen also took a wicket. England were 7/203 in the 39th over, before Nat Sciver-Brunt (111 not out) and Sarah Glenn (22 not out) mounted a final charge. They needed 15 runs off the 50th over bowled by Jonassen, but could only manage 11.

The main series may be gone, but the ODI series is still up for grabs with the final game at Taunton on Tuesday.

Well it works but play is suspended (wet ground). They had music playing with one camera on at the ground. I heard “Waiting for the night” by Jennifer Lopez.

The proper coverage is on now. Thanks @foxyrover .

They needed to play something more appropriate like Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Who’ll Stop The Rain”.
