Australia defeated India by 54 runs in the fifth and final T20 match in Mumbai overnight, to clinch the series 4-1.
Two I think. Lost to the Windies in 1988/1989 and India in 2020/2021.
Both the Melbourne and Sydney Tests are in the perfect peak cricket watching period - while everyone is relaxed and on holidays. Thereâs about a 2 week sweet spot from Christmas Eve to the Monday a couple of weeks later when most people return to work.
People can stay up later and because those two tests are in the eastern states and day only, they can slot a couple of Big Bash matches afterwards for the cricket marathons. E.g. Test finishes at 6, BB game 1 from 7 and then go to Perth for a late game.
Build it so that you can set your calendar to it as well, I love the idea of the final being on Australia Day but unfortunately at the moment, until a decision is made about Australia Day itâs a bit hard to build anything upon it with all the coverage it gets each year.
Iâd love to see something like the WBBL running through December then have the final on Christmas Eve as a curtain raiser to the opening game of the BBL and then maybe a game on Christmas Day otherwise a doubleheader on Boxing Day after the opening day of the Test and the Sydney to Hobart etc⌠and all the food comas itâs an advertisers dream for those into their sport.
Meg Lanning will return from a five-month break to lead the Australian womenâs team against Pakistan next month. She was seen practicing at the nets at Melbourneâs Junction Oval this week.
Something big has happened here but no details. Bit of a loss on the ground for the Thunder though - no idea whatâs happened off the field though.
Ellyse Perry has been suspended from the opening matchof the next WBBL season, due to multiple rule infringements.
Green was sold to the Mumbai Indians for A$3.15 million at last nightâs IPL auction, surpassing the figure paid by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Pat Cummins in 2020.
The India vs Bangladesh test match has an exciting ending coming up. India are 7 for 75 and need another 70 to win.
A little bit unusual to see Test cricket on Christmas Day, but understandable when itâs involving two countries that are not predominantly Christian countries.
No sport should be on Christmas
India have won without losing any more wickets.
So countries that are not major observers of Christmas should not play sport on Christmas? Absurd.
Agree, its kind of like saying that Christians shouldnât play sport during Ramadan or a non Christian religious occasionâŚ
Yeah, but when it involves NBA and NFL players that are on 2 million a year plus contracts I think they can make an exception.
As a Christian Iâd rather see things happening on Christmas Day than Good Friday but that ship seems to have sailed.
Personally, I loved that there were 2 and a half days in the year (Christmas, Good Friday and ANZAC Day) where the country could just stop. Essential services were still there but everybody else could get a break which in the last 20 years has become such a rare thing with the world being always on and accessible at any time when it didnât really use to be.
You could add Easter Sunday to that too.
Any MS pals enjoying Boxing Day today?
Thoughts on what weâre seeing? One quick comment: phew with the wicket, actually rather impressed, not amazing, but even Ponting is praising it. And Boland and Green, the rising stars keep impressing on the big stage ![]()
Scotty is 33 - imagine if heâd played earlier!
Yeah in the current squad that is ![]()
