Player availability seems to be the biggest driver for draft selections, makes a bit of a mockery of the idea of the draft

And about 5 of the picks already have been ether “retention” or reselection of players last season.

CA won’t be happy with all the big names left on the table due to availability.

I wonder how many angry phone calls James Warburton has made already?

With a fresh broadcast deal looming, the loss of du Plessis, Russell, Bravo, Pollard and Roy comes as a huge blow to CA after free-to-air broadcaster Channel 7 launched Federal Court action against the organisation in a bid to terminate its TV rights deal.

Seven was adamant the cricketers that featured in last summer’s BBL were not of a high enough quality for the competition to meet the standard provisions stipulated in CA’s TV rights contract.

The newly-introduced BBL Draft was supposed to bring household names into the competition, but the clubs have chosen availability over bums on seats.

Truth be told I cared more about the game vs Zimbabwe yesterday, although local footy and the Comrades Marathon got in the way of me following it past about 30 overs into Zimbabwe’s innings (home team by 5 wickets chasing down 200 with about 18 overs to spare).

Australia thrashed Zimbabwe by eight wickets, inside 15 overs, in the second ODI at Townsville today, to claim the three-match series. The win was set up by brilliant Aussie bowling in the first innings, bowling the tourists out for 96, with Starc and Zampa claiming three wickets each.

Finch needs to go. He is well and truly finished.

Zimbabwe had their first win over Australia in Australia, in the third and final ODI in Townsville this afternoon. Brilliant Zimbabwean bowling (leg spinner Ryan Burl took 5/10 in just 3 overs) and very poor Australian batting (apart from David Warner’s 94) saw the home side bowled out for 141 in 31 overs. Zimbabwe almost made a meal of their run chase, losing seven wickets before reaching the target with 11 overs to spare. Mitchell Starc became the fastest in history to claim 200 ODI wickets, finishing with 1/33 from eight overs.

Australia won the ODI series 2-1 and received 20 points to Zimbabwe’s 10 for the ODI World Cup Super League. Australia are now 7th on the Super League table with 90 points, while Zimbabwe are second last with 45 points.

Ryan Burl was named player of the match for his five-wicket haul while Adam Zampa was named player of the series for his six wickets in the three matches.

What a great match up in Cairns, Australia get away with it with 2 wickets in hand. Green struggling at the end.

I think the one dayers in winter is a great idea rather than being over shadowed with the bbl. Given free to air don’t bring the one dayers play more matches in winter.

Someone explain to me how Aaron Finch still has a gig please, dismissed for 5 runs off 4 balls.

Australia beat New Zealand by 114 runs in the second ODI in Cairns tonight, in which bowlers dominated on a slowing wicket. Both teams suffered batting collapses (Australian captain Aaron Finch out for a second ball duck). The main difference was Steve Smith’s 61 and the Aussie bowlers Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazelwood, who contributed 78 runs for the last two wickets.

Sean Abbott (who replaced Cameron Green in the Aussie lineup) was back to his best, bowling four maiden overs in a row before finishing with two wickets for one run from his five overs.

Zampa took five wickets but Starc was named player of the match for his score of 38 not out and bowling figures of 2/12.

Australian Captain, Aaron Finch has announced his retirement in ODIs.

The right move i think, he would have been dropped if his poor form had continued for much longer. A great ODI career still though.

South Africa being demolished at 6/36. As a proud Aussie it feels almost treasonous but I’m hoping England win this game with the events of the past 2 days.
