Not sure if it got discussed here or not but the Welcome to Country prior to the Sydney Test was fantastic! Good to see someone with a sense of humour and seeing James Sherry in the background unsure how to react was great too. Got some laughs with a few gags as well as doing the proper welcome to country and won over a few fans too.
So England have been able to push this Test into a 5th day, with the help of rain interruptions.
I canât see England batting out the day for a draw, let alone scoring another 358 runs for victory. Will the rain gods save them?
I canât see Australia taking 10 wickets in one day. That is a lot
Never underestimate the lack of quality in the England batting line-up!
This could be a pretty lacklustre day of cricket - England will spend a good part of the day trying to survive and Australiaâs performance has a tendency to drop off when they canât get wickets
The Ashes test at the SCG has ended in a draw with Australia one wicket away from going 4-0 up in the series. It was a tight finish with Steve Smith claiming Englandâs ninth wicket in the third last over of the day.
Usman Khawaja was named player of the match for his twin tons.
UPDATE: England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler will fly home on Monday after sustaining a broken finger while keeping on the second day at the test match.
New Zealand thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 117 runs in the second test at Christchurch today, to level the two-test series 1-1. Ross Taylor ended his test career on a high, taking the final Bangladeshi wicket, that of bowler Ebadot Hossain (who helped his team winning the previous match). NZ captain Tom Latham was named player of the match for his brilliant innings of 252.
EDIT 13/1: Cricket Australia today announced the fixture for the final week of the BBL regular season.
England have won the toss at the first Ashes test ever in Tassie (at Hobart).
The match is another affected by rain:
Iâve noticed Fox are calling it âBlundstone Arenaâ which is the sponsorsâ name (BBL, AFL, etc.). I was under the impression that CA doesnât use sponsorsâ names for menâs internationals (unless they were to match up with a CA sponsor). Whatâs the go here? Is it Blundstone or Bellerive? I know that cricket.com.au are calling it Blundstone Arena, so is this a case of double standards (prior to this match theyâve called it Bellerive for the ODIs and T20Is here, and 9 always called it Bellerive) when compared to Perthâs Optus Stadium (pre the Vodafone partnership) which was called Perth Stadium, even when Optus was a CA sponsor?
Hobart: now do you see why we donât play there?
Could be over tomorrow but itâs nice to see a different game to the usual Aussies smacking it round.
Crowd gone very quiet now. Lol. Reckon the English will have the same trouble too.
What are the chances: David Boon (match referee) is sitting in the officialsâ box in the David Boon Stand!
Also, surely the Hobart Councilâs 11pm lights curfew wonât apply if play has to continue beyond then at any stage?
Stumps have been called for the day.
The test series between South Africa and Australia is set to be played in August 2023 (presumably after the Ashes series in England).
I donât like that the u19 World Cup is sponsored by BIRA91. There would be plenty of players who canât drink, either in the West Indies or their home country.
I find it amazing that all of the ICCâs partners for the World Cup (regardless of its location) are focused on a single market - says a lot about where the money is.
What is the market?
India.
ICC has many Indian-based partners while OPPO (Chinese mobile phone brand) also has a big presence in India.
Compared with (say) FIFA World Cup, whose sponsors generally target a worldwide market, although since South Africa 2010 there have been an increasing number of Chinese companies coming onboard.
Well the governing body is the BCCI!
EDIT: Sorry, I meant ICC.
And Russian and Middle Eastern.
