That’s it! Australia have won the 2nd ashes test beating England by 275 runs! Jhye Richardson takes a 5-fer!

Glad to hear, my planned work trip has been moved so isn’t going to be during the game now unfortunately. We’re in Hobart for one of the Big Bash games and were going to go but now that COVID is starting to do the rounds we’ll probably just watch from home and sit this one out until we get our boosters in mid-Jan.

Perth Scorchers today announced their final two home games of the BBL season will be held at Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium. Those matches will start at 8.15pm local time (9.15pm AEDT).

It’d be great to see cricket in the Olympics.

Illingworth was also England coach from 1995 to 1996, and chairman of selectors from 1993 to 1996.

Cricket Australia confirmed today that two members of the England support staff and two of their family members had returned positive rapid antigen tests. The entire England squad will have PCR tests at the close of play, but the third test will continue as scheduled.

This morning’s news has raised some concerns about the next test and the application of the COVID rules in NSW.

Herald Sun is reporting that CA has been urged to move next month’s fifth test from Hobart to Melbourne as well, as Tasmania has tougher isolation rules for positive cases than Victoria. The report quoted former England captain Michael Vaughan as saying that finishing the series at the MCG was a “good possibility”.

Great end to day 2 with Australia really putting the sword to England. Hopefully the whole test can be done and dusted by the end of tomorrow.

How good is cricket?

NSW has tougher rules too.

They could then play 3 Tests in a row at the G!

It’s been a very one sided series.

Last year against India was much more compelling as a contest.

Won’t happen. It would be a PR disaster for CA.

CA have been talking to NSW about adopting Victorian-like rules for the two teams and entourages as a measure to allow the test to proceed if there was to be another positive test during the Sydney Test - that may come at a cost to freedoms for the period they are in NSW though (and that may not be acceptable to the ECB)

CA announced this morning that players and their families from both Australian and England teams had tested negative after undergoing PCR tests overnight, however:

England have some massive problems. They don’t seem to have 11 test quality players from a very large selection pool

Their batting has been worse than their bowling (which hasn’t been great) - doesn’t help there doesn’t appear to be any depth to the squad they’ve brought to Australia either.

England have a lot of work to do before the Sydney test. Unacceptable to lose five wickets in the first hour of play. Incredibly good bowling from Scott Boland. Either him or Marcus Harris for man of the match.

Australia have retained the Ashes, beating England by an innings and 14 runs at the MCG. What a bowling demolition job by the Aussies, taking four English wickets in one hour last night and the final six this morning. Scott Boland had a dream test debut, taking 6/7 in the second innings to finish with match figures of 7/55.

England’s batting was very poor throughout this test, with four ducks and only two players reaching double figures in the second innings.
