Cricket television rights 2018 (Foxtel/Seven)

So which free to air network ends up with the most sport?

Will Ten be ok without any big sports /losing the cricket?

Ten have indicated that they will be spending the money they used to spend on the cricket to provide new entertainment programs over the summer.

30 year old movie re-runs they’ll acquire? :joy:

Nine are in the exact same boat next summer at least though.

Not if they’ve acquired all the rights to tennis from Seven.

If Seven do reach an arrangement with TA and on-sell to Nine, I wonder if it wouldn’t be formalised/announced until after Seven’s immediate upcoming events like the Fed Cup and Wimbledon?

Otherwise it’d be even more awkward and difficult you’d think?

Or, there is the possibility Seven may not want to completely end their relationship with TA, in that maybe Seven want Wimbledon et al. in the future still?

Never assume anything unless it comes from Seven itself

If Nine do or don’t acquire the rights to the tennis from Seven next summer, they still dont have any sport content to show during December (which they always had with the cricket).

Are Wimbledon rights bought through TA?

No, Seven (and networks around the world) buy the rights directly from the All England Club.

Australian Financial Review reports today that CA has turned its attention to radio rights. CA contacted its radio broadcast partners (SCA, Macquarie and ABC) in the last week, scoping out what each of the networks is looking for in the next deal. Crocmedia will probably be involved this time around.

Didn’t want to protect his investment? Or is Murdoch still pulling his strings?

He’s clearly an idiot. His network will be rating even lower. $5m is nothing compared to the waste he spent on trying to get a hold of ten.

or is someone still trying to stir the pot???

Some sort of revenge for missing out on Ten? It would still be detrimental to his own WIN investment though.

That’s true, but causing detriment to WIN doesn’t seem to phase him, look at the ‘b’ grade movies and old movies and shows he replaces programs in Ten’s schedule with.

Perhaps instead of 30+ year old movies and mini series, they could air Crawfords Classics instead - at least he can throw Crawford DVD ads right the way through those shows

It will be a like a drop in the ocean, with all the money Bruce has. How ironic, that I think he helped Nine get the cricket back in 2013 but didn’t do it this time. He should’ve helped Ten, but no sour grapes are still there. They were doing really well over the summer thanks to the BBL.

Surely that old fart didn’t waste any money on that blue shit-stain being stuck on the top right hand corner of screens.

Gordon’s loss that will probably cost a few real people their jobs as ratings and revenue continues to plummet. What a silly old fool. Lancaster, etc must be appalled at his behaviour.

To be somewhat fair to Bruce, he already pays TEN for programming via a % of revenue. It would kind of seem a bit like he’s being asked to pay twice?

yet he was willing to pay money for the CBS deal to come undone in the courts. He likes to pick and choose when it suits him best.
