Thank god he is gone!
If Seven is sensible enough to treat Big Bash in particular as a marquee event along the lines of how it treated the Aus Open, then it will thrive.
If it goes the cheap route, it will suffer.
Seven arenât stupid. They need a summer premier event and theyâll have it, so theyâll throw all resources behind it.
Fox will be good for cricket and a 24/7 cricket channel will be launched.
Fox might be good for cricket, 7 wonât!
7 will be much better off with the BBL during summer than they were with the tennis. Good move!
Ten are big losers here, but seriously what have 9 done? Not real smart!
5 years ago cricket purposely did the rights deal with Ten/Nine cause they âwanted full exposer on FTA after people stopped watching and going to cricket when it was under its old arrangement of Nine/foxâ
Cricket Australia history will show this is a bad deal for cricket!
The only commentator Iâll miss from 9 would be Bill Lawry. Sad weâll never hear him commentate ever again.
Absolute end of an era
Peter Ford just told 3AW Breakfast with Ross and John that the Seven board will meet and an announcement in a few hours. All but done it seems.
We have to remember Seven-Foxtelâs already close working relationship since 2007, but especially 2012, liaising each week with the complicated AFL rights with markets outside VIC. Maybe Seven seemed like a better partner in News Corp / Telstraâs eyes.
I canât believe BBL at least is gone from Ten, their effort was simply astonishing. What a shame for FTA cricket fans
The biggest winnerâs here could be Nine/ten. They will have surplus cash now to go hard at major sports over the next few years. Save some money over the next few years and then go all in
I am worrying for Ten though. Its ratings will suffer for the entire year for the next four years (2019-2022) with most major sports locked up between Nine, Seven and Foxtel.
Radio news reports this morning are taking the following line:
âCricket will disappear behind a pay wall âŚâ
To be fair, it is not as if the Big Bash summer lead in seemed to help Tenâs ratings in February anyway.
Very interesting developments and none seem to be good for the sport of Cricket.
Ten made a statement here confirming theyâve lost the rights.
Bad deal for all involved.
Ten will have shares of 8% and lower all through December and January. There goes all that revenue. CBS will not be happy.
Simulcast deals dilutes the revenue. Pathetic really. No digital rights for seven. Foxtel monoplosing sport. Casual fans will not subscribe.
Seven will no doubt bring him back for the Boxing Day Test.
Nine walks off cricket after 40 years
Bill Lawry and Ian Chappell will more likely to retire
Mark Nicholas will move to a different broadcaster (overseas)
Shane Warne can go to 7.
Ian Healy, Mark Taylor and Michael Slater will probably stay at 9.
He did work for them when he was dropped as captain, theyâd be mad bot to make an offer but wouldnât be surprised if he declined.
Seven will not have streaming rights it appears with Foxtel having exclusive streaming rights. Dud deal for Seven. They had want to be paying the bare minimum for this.
Struggling to understand if Seven are actually producing the coverage or whether Fox is doing the whole thing and Seven is just simulcasting their coverage. I guess we will see at the announcement later today.
Fair enough the Tests moving across to Seven but moving the Big Bash from Ten is a massive fail.
I agree this is a dud deal for Seven and dud deal for Cricket with Ten losing The Big Bash.
