Cricket television rights 2018 (Foxtel/Seven)

And half the time when there is cricket to run, it clashes so a lot ends up on Mix or Main Event anyway.

I’d probably subscribe to Foxtel if they just got all the archive content and just ran it in the off hours.

Anyway, we should probably all calm down (myself included). For all we know AFR has overplayed Fox’s hand, and they’ve only picked up something minor, like the One Day Cup, Archive and Women’s rights. Fairfax have scare-mongered for most of the bidding period after all. And given the twists and turns of this sorry saga, it might all be turned on its head tomorrow

Fox Sports has the IPL which is a great asset on every night until May 28 AEST.

Problem is most of the games are 12:30-4:00 in the morning. There’s a handful of 9:30 pm doubleheaders on weekends but it’s not much…

If Seven does win the FTA rights to cricket, will it cut away from its Commonwealth Games telecast to show the press conference live? Or if Ten retains cricket rights (not necessarily BBL), will it be shown live during Studio 10?

I am somewhat hoping that it pans out in this manner.

Network Ten were willing to put forward $100 million a year.

If Foxtel were given the opportunity to put up $60 million that would bring the deal close to $1billion.

This would be over 6 years. Would also save CA face.

Foxtel could have simulcast rights on everything, apart from the Big Bash League which would remain exclusively on FTA.

Come on CA. You know this makes sense.

Network Ten should always have been the ‘primary’.

The Australian has essentially the same story as the AFR.

Here’s (presumably) the same article that is “paywall free”

Why any network thinks simulcast with fox is good is beyond me. For the last week we have seen Seven have over 40% of viewers watch them every single night. If this was simulcasts on fox this could be a 1/3 less.

Maximise sales, have it in one place. Maximise viewers, have it in one place. :man_facepalming:

When are the radio rights coming around again? It would be nice to have commentary from the ground rather than from the studio like for the big bash.

It’s going to Seven.

News Corp is claiming it is still not decided. The article linked to is the one from last night.

JAMES BRAWSHAW is back calling cricket!:popcorn::popcorn:

It’s updated. Last night it said it was not decided whether Seven or Ten was the FTA partner.

A colleague of mine who is an avid Cricket fan had this to say this morning when I mentioned the Foxtel tie up -

‘Forget it. The sport will start to die off’

Genius move CA. Well done.:roll_eyes::clap:

Because AFL and NRL have died off with Foxtel deals. Rubbish.

So what dies first here: Channel Ten or the Big Bash?

You’re comparing apples with a surplus of oranges. When was every game of AFL and NRL shown live on free-to-air before having perhaps half of its games being given to a pay TV provider?

Big Bash, just.

If these reports are true CA should be ashamed of themselves! Forget the Test Matches but the BBL has been made by Channel Ten! Not only on TV but IMO they have increased ground attendance etc. I’ve watched a little of the IPL in the past few nights and the commentary is woeful compared to the Ten BBL commentary. As for Test matches on 7, I couldn’t be bothered! I have Fox Sports because of the AFL, as a pensioner it’s difficult to get to matches anymore and I’ve also been ill with cancer in the past year, when 7 commentary is on I turn off the sound! God (or whoever) knows what 7 cricket commentary will be like. Also no commercials after every goal on Fox Footy! 7 cricket will probably have a commercial after every ball! As you can probably gather I am not a 7 fan!
