COVID-19: News Coverage 😷

Nine News Gold Coast and Brisbane were both live from outside the Gold Coast Hospital

Nine had NO coverage, live or delayed of the PM’s speech!

Is that ABC backdrop meant to be Parliament House with GFX elements of the virus? It’s really ugly. Washed out flat dull grey. They need some colour there big time

What was 9 Brisbane, Gold Coast & regional showing at 7 then?

9 Brisbane and 9 Regional were showing Hot Seat. 9 Gold Coast was showing the end of 9 Local News with the weather.

In a strange decision the speech was not covered by the Brisbane or regional news on Nine. Yet they did manage to show Trump’s address to the nation.

On ABC in Queensland, the address was delayed on the main channel until just before 7pm.

On 7 QLD regional it was shown on delay around 6:30 during the Brisbane portion of their hour of news.

Was 7pm actually 6pm in Qld with time diff?

Why on earth would 9 show hot seat and local news running late at 7pm when Acá was avail from the network to Air live?

Maybe a Techincal problem?

@TV.Cynic

The PM address started just before 6pm AEST in Brisbane. Seven began their news early to help cover it. Nine ran their normal schedule.

10 News showed the address live in Queensland and WIN News started slightly late so that regional viewers (where there is local news) got to see part of the address live as well - the only regional main channel to show the address live.

In Brisbane Seven’s live bug said the location was Canberra, but Sydney and Melbourne said Kirribilli.

Given this is turning into a media disruption thread as well, The Late Show with Matty Johns has no studio audience tonight.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that triggers the cancellation of the Melbourne Grand Prix

McLaren’s statement

McLaren’s F1 drivers for the 2020 season are Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz Jr.

They need to call the F1s off, or at the very least race it without spectators. It’s clear this virus is moving a lot quicker than anticipated.

There is talk that the Sydney Easter show is going to be canceled as of this weekend.

Yep, it wouldn’t overly surprise me if that event was cancelled (for the first time since World War 2, I believe) soon.

I also wonder how long it’ll be until the NRL (and of course, the AFL when the season kicks off next week) will decide to start playing matches in empty stadiums.

I wouldn’t be surprised as of next week both the NRL and AFL will be playing in front of empty stadiums.

It’s the spectators that are the main problem in sports. So any sport that can get by without spectators would be OK.

Not sure about horse racing though; a lot of that sport relates to crowds at the track. Seven has some big weekends coming up like the Golden Slipper.

Good grief that promo is basically evidence that Nine News Queensland’s sensationalism is beyond help. What’s with that exclamation mark? Absolutely hideous.

The latter option is feasible, but can you imagine a large crowd lining up along Queens Road on Sunday afternoon trying to get a glimpse of F1 cars through the barbed wire fence? That will be very dangerous.

This week’s Moomba festival in Melbourne still managed to attract a large crowd under the cloud of coronavirus.
