Ah ok, too late really.
Looking forward to the usual suspects in this thread saying “ah, COVID didn’t kill him so that’s okay”.
You really have cracked the shits today. Love it!
I’m done with this planet - SpaceX has never looked so inviting.
Or New Zealand. It operates on a different (and better) wavelength to everywhere else. Less prone to climate disasters, too.
Can’t stand the cold. (Yes, I’m aware that I live in Melbourne.)
Auckland has a slightly warmer annual average temp than Melbourne, but I digress.
141 of today’s cases are linked to a known case or cluster – 120 are household contacts and 21 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 337 cases is under investigation. 97 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 30 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. 61 cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 290 remains under investigation.
183 of today’s cases were from western Sydney and 144 were from south west Sydney, 35 from western NSW, 16 from Hunter New England, and two each from Central Coast and Illawarra Shoalhaven.
Seven deaths were reported to 8pm last night:
A man in his 80s from south west Sydney died at Campbelltown Hospital. Not vaccinated.
A man in his 40s from south west Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital. Not vaccinated and had severe health conditions.
A woman in her 70s from Sydney’s northern suburbs died at Royal North Shore Hospital.
A woman in her 80s from Sydney’s inner west died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She was a resident of the Wyoming Residential Aged Care Facility and is the third death linked to this cluster. She was not vaccinated.
A man in his 70s from south west Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital. He was a patient in the geriatric ward at the hospital and is the eighth death linked to this outbreak. He had one dose of AZ.
A man in his 80s from south west Sydney died at Campbelltown Hospital. He had severe health conditions.
A man in his 80s from western Sydney who died at Nepean Hospital. He had severe health conditions and was not vaccinated.
There was an 8th death reported since then - the 15-year-old boy who was vaccinated against pneumococcal meningitis but not COVID.
Deaths are going to become an issue. As we approach 10 per day, 300 a month. God help us if it’s surges.
It was not a race to vaccinate so that’s a lot of people dead who were not vaccinated.
Deaths lag cases by about 2 weeks - so today’s deaths are when national cases were around 210 2 weeks ago.
That should double 2 weeks from now to around 15-20 a day
Given the area of Sydney we’re talking about here, those teenagers and their parents probably have more dollars than sense.
NSW has 6634 active cases, Its likely to top Melbourne’s 2020 peak of 6766 tomorrow.
Likely to top 700 daily cases too soon. Can’t see them staying below 500 daily cases in the next couple of days.
I reckon we will have our first 1000+ day within 7-10 days (but would be very happy to be proven wrong).
It’s already taken off and there are clearly substantial chains of community transmission that are brewing away without anybody knowing.
one thing that’s often forgotten is that the day Melbourne has 724 was preceded by a day of 278. Numbers were very erratic, the 7 day average topped out at 508. I think its a safe bet NSW will top that soon.
What was Melbourne’s highest daily case and when?
dhhs website says 687 on Aug 8, but at the time it was 724.
I almost guarantee that we’ll see over 500 cases either tomorrow or on Wednesday
