South Australia has posted a new daily record for vaccines administered.
Strong numbers across the board, excellent to see particularly as there was some speculation in prior weeks that SA/QLD/WA were slowing down.
That is great news. These are probably all people who booked when they first got told they were eligible and this was their first booking. I know this happened to my sister in SA, she could have got an early booking if she canceled but just decided to keep it.
I am getting more hope that all of Australia can get to 80%. SA is getting closer now.
QLD does seem to be the big concern now. For the last 4 days they have administered more second doses than first. Which is fine if they had at least over 70% first dose administered.
The number of COVID cases have exploded in Romania, from 1000 cases last month to 15,037 cases on Tuesday. Reuters reports that the government has vaccinated only a little over a third of the countryâs adult population, because of distrust in state institutions and misinformation campaigns.
QLD Update: 0 community cases overnight. 6 overseas acquired cases including five on a ship off the stateâs coast
Home quarantine to commence from 11 October. A number of qualifiers including being fully vaccinated for 2 weeks. Initially directed at 1,000 people who have been waiting to return.
One of the qualifiers for home quarantine is that your home must be within two hours of Brisbane Airport. That basically rules out people interstate who want to return to their homes outside SEQ region.
South Australia administered their highest first doses so far. They are coming home strong.
I donât get this. People need a negative test to travel. They will be isolating 7 days at home.
Everyone has to have a negative test to step foot on an airport or a plane.
Unlike shops, malls. Gyms, sports, household gatherings, weddings, churches, etc.no one needs a negative test or to isolate with regards to being around hundreds of people when they visit these places.
What is wrong with them having a few parameters in making sure the new system works. The two hour rule would cover the vast majority of Queenslandâs residents and relate to the fact that if something does get through that they have access to proper medical care and not in a local hospital or in a community that it could spread into.
It is good to see that the states are finally looking at alternative ways of quarantining, but done in a way that wonât open the flood gates like in other countries.
It is just a trial initially to see how it works out before they decide anything further.
Yet some people clearly thinks that they can skip these steps and move straight into the next phase with no consideration on the other factors.
Being cautious isnât all that bad, for those who are critical of governments for taking a conservative approach to this.
CHO also indicated the higher vaccination rates in Brisbane were a factor compared to regional areas; again in case the virus escapes the home quarantine.
What about interstate and intrastate travel?
Someone coming from Melbourne to Mackay. or Sydney to Mt Isa.
Or from Gold Coast to Cairns.
This is the real reason Anastacia is keeping Queensland closed.
Not to keep queenslanders safe as she repeats daily, but because she resides over a hospital system that is buckling without covid and is not fit for service
Itâs not just QLD either. Our funding into hospitals has been extremely poor throughout Australia. Itâs embarrassing.
Australia has overtaken Israel and Germany in first dose. That might say more about Israel and Germany, but lets knock off Panama and Saudi Arabia next.
ATAGI now recommends severely immunocompromised individuals receive a third dose of a COVID vaccination.
QLD Update: 0 new local cases.
Restrictions in Queensland will be eased to Stage 3 at 4pm. Hospital, aged and disability care visits resume. Restrictions on mask wearing eased in community as well as in schools. Hospitality venues allowed 50% capacity; 100 people allowed in home gatherings.
