Iām not sure how aged care rollout is being managed but my dad (in his 70s) and my sister (in her 20s but is immunocompromised) both got their first dose today. They just contacted the GP a couple of weeks ago and were told to both come in today.
My father (also 70) was told by his GP on Friday to come back in a few weeks until they had more vaccines.
I donāt have any articles to cite as itās all just twitter banter, but itās interesting to see on social media that youāre starting to see a lot of squabbles between mostly left-wing individuals in the US who are split on whether the US should start opening up once herd immunity is achieved (at the current vaccination rate this is estimated for as early as June-July) or should stay locked down for longer ājust-in-caseā of what youāre describing.
My 80 year old mother in aged care in Qld gets her first dose on Thursday this week. Been a long time coming.
More BS from the Federal Government.
here are Victoriaās numbers:
Health authorities say that a total of 117,700 doses have been administered in Victoria, with 1,023 delivered in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday. Authorities say 98,584 of them are first doses and 19,116 are second doses.
The results come as the federal government considers opening quarantine-free travel to select Asian and Pacific destinations by August.
Immigration and health authorities are exploring plans to open up to Singapore within months, followed by other nations with low COVID-19 numbers such as Fiji, Vietnam and Thailand, as well as Japan and South Korea, although their daily case numbers are higher.
I am expecting this to happen soon. The Australian Government is flagging the idea of doing the quarantine from Europe in Singapore as well.
Queensland has recorded six new cases of COVID-19 overnight all in hotel quarantine.
NSW also recorded six new cases overnight, all in hotel quarantine.
I reckon Qudos Bank Arena or State Sports Centre will be the vaccination hub.
This is what the federal government shouldāve been planning for this past year.
Instead (Iād guess for ideological reasons) they went down the path of having GPs involved, which requires so many more people to be involved in the planning, delivery & other logistics, and so many more opportunities for things to go wrong, and more wasted vaccines.
Morrisonās ineptitude means almost nobody has been vaccinated.
Hopefully the CSL-manufactured Oxford/AZ vaccine is approved shortly and the federal government gives it to the states & territories in huge batches for them to administer.
Theyāre signing a lease for commercial property in that area and once signed it will be announced.
Well it makes sense that these initial phases (such as currently for the elderly and those with medical conditions) go through GPs as these more at risk groups would feel more comfortable doing so where their medical history is known. I always thought though that it was planned to eventually open it up to more mass vaccination areas after that (with GPs still as an option). Iām not sure if this is a State or Federal thing but I know in Victoria both the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre are set up to be mass vaccinations hubs, plus a couple of hospitals are set up for it and the Ford factory in Geelong too. So it seems like they have been prepping to ramp up soon.
I wonder how many introverts will not get the vaccine because it requires picking up a phone, making an appointment, then being forced in a room and make conversation with a doctor. I know plenty of people that have had serious medical conditions that would require a pretty standard trip to the doctor to resolve but choose to just persevere with the pain/illness instead. Those people are not going to a gp willingly to do something that is largely for others benefit.
I for one would much prefer being vaccinated as part of a mass production line where there is no expectation to interact with the staff.

Victoria is continuing to support the Commonwealth with its vaccination program with further expansion of the program dependant on vaccine supply.
