I suspect the station’s main focus is being on air within the urban area of Hornsby rather than wider, a perceived more expensive coverage to the ‘far reaches’ of the licence area.

I agree with you. Its very good around the Hornsby CBD (which is obvious). The reception starts to decline around Thornleigh / Normanhurst area (depends what part as it is quite hilly) . The current transmitter probably is getting blocked by apartment blocks to western/southern areas of Hornsby don’t help. I got a photo of the transmitter on weekend, not the best angle.

Pretty sure that you can get a weak signal of Triple H in parts of the NSW Southern Highlands which is a bit further from Hornsby than Brooklyn.

I can receive it at moderate strength at Stanhope Gardens with hissy stereo. Similar strength to the ABC nationals fm’s from Newcastle.
In relation to getting into Brooklyn, even if it had the best site with clear LOS to the north it would struggle with the terrain.
Probably best site for Triple H would be on one of the towers on Quarry Rd Dural, but it would then have its transmitter in Hills Shire not Hornsby Shire. If it was allowed to broadcast from there it would need a very directional antenna to the east / north east away from the licence area of Alive 90.5.

yeah Brooklyn is in a “hole” but I am saying that in a nice way. Its a beautiful spot on the Hawkesbury. I notice as you head south along Woodville Road you get pretty good HHH reception in the car. It is just around that zone nearby to the south. Around West Pennant Hills its pretty bad and valleys around Carlingford. The ridgeline blocks the reception until you get far enough away from it.

Actually, they’re located within the Hornsby Shire, therefore within the HHH licence area.

yeah I think SWR have a very directional setup. Although, I remember when I went to Oran Park (in the opposite direction) the reception is still pretty good
I agree Quarry road would be pretty good. It may improve Brooklyn a bit but I’d say the only way fix Brooklyn would be a repeater and the size of the population is probably not worth it. It has only has a pop of less than 1000. My guess Pennant Hills would improve if Quarry Road was used.

I get a weak but permanent HHH signal up here at Charlestown near Newcastle.

If I get a chance I will do a comparison coverage map through Nautel for the existing site and a simulation for Quarry Rd Dural to see how it gets into Brooklyn and areas to the south.
BTW what is the current location of the Triple H broadcast site?

I would have thought the towers on Beaumont Rd in the industrial estate would have been enough to service Brooklyn as well as Hornsby CBD

WHCR FM is quite weak at the moment and seems to be only broadcasting a buzzing noise.

Interesting idea! I wonder how much that would cover down to the south of the shire. I think a good idea it is really in the heart of the shire. I don’t think it would be necessary to limit power in any direction.
Proposal to vary the Albury licence area plan – consultation 32/2021
We are proposing to vary the Albury licence area plan (LAP). This will involve expanding the licence area and making spectrum available for an infill transmitter for the community radio station 3RUM.
We are also proposing to vary the technical specifications of the community radio station 3TLR to improve its broadcast reach and reception quality, which will require listeners to retune. This will require us to change the station’s licence area and repeal an unused licence area.
In addition, we are proposing to make spectrum available to plan the Holbrook temporary community broadcast service to provide a long-term community radio service for the Holbrook area. This will require us to make a licence area determination.

3TLR is the Christian service currently operating in Wodonga on 98.5 MHz. A relocation to 98.3 MHz from a different site is proposed. 98.5 must get hammered by 3ONE Shepparton. 98.3 will also be interference limited.
The 99.9 MHz proposal for 3RUM/t Tallangatta suggests that the 3ABCRN Yackandandah allocation for that frequency is a work of fiction. To be fair I think this Yackandandah service hasn’t appeared on the ACMA list for quite some time.

Allocating Shepparton and Albury on the same FM spacing was probably not the greatest call in hindsight.
Wouldn’t imagine 765 would struggle to get in from Wangaratta (or even 621 Melbourne - car radio has picked it up at a reasonably strong level as far east as Bright in years gone by.)

They also mention the unallocated community radio service at Corryong on 94.9 MHz. For a while this was ‘Revival Time Radio’…yet another Christian station. I picked it up from Bombala in 2007 or 2008.

As promised here are the coverage maps for 2HHH for the existing and other suggested sites.
I have just done them at 200w and 30m antenna height and not worried about the 50w restriction that are imposed to the south and west to protect the coverage of 2NSB and Alive 90.5.
The first coverage map is the current site.
The second one is Quarry Rd Dural, notice the improvement in reception around Pennant Hills where 2HHH is very weak.
The last one is Beaumont Rd Mt Kuring ghai.
None of the sites will get into Brooklyn too well. Mt Kuring ghai would offer the best coverage if you were trying to cover Brooklyn over Dural and the poor site at Waitara.
Dural would provide the most metro wide coverage for 2HHH unless you use a very directional antenna that blocks signal to the south and to the west.

Is the programming on 2HHH particularly good? Might have to give it another listen. There was a stage about 15 years ago when it specialised in playing obscure 80s music.
