… as a former AirNews alumni (I left in 2017), interested to know what is it that’s “better”? …
before I say anything else your not stevens are you?
Well I’d say Air News is trying different things under new ownership. If it works out for them they’ll give bigger players a shakeup.
I understand there’s a lot of things on the table.
as someone who listens to community radio, I have found air news is a lot better then it used to be under the new ownership. the editing is a lot better. and no more coughing on-air and mispronunciations of words that don’t get edited out to me the old air news was sometimes very very amateurish and now sounds a lot better
89.7 2RES Eastside Radio - Sydney has a transmitter problem.
Cycle of switching on/off rapidly, then off, then increasing in strength, on, then switching on/off rapidly & repeat.
nope … he’s still on-air!!
Coast FM Gosford has advertised on 9NBN Central Coast in recent years.
Though I’ve always wondered when and why 3BBB / Voice FM moved from 97.5 to 99.9.
I think @JasonF has worked there? Maybe he knows?
and I still work there I did get told why when I first joined up 2 years ago now but I will do double-check on why

I’m guessing because they wanted to use 97.5 in Melbourne, but that got changed to 97.4 for an unknown reason, possibly TV interference?
99.9 could have been used in Melbourne at the time, but perhaps they already earmarked 100.3 for a future commercial service. Geelong was on 100.3 back then though.
i dont think that is it
According to this ABA Media Release from April 1997, the main reason that 3BBB changed frequency was to increase its power from 200 watts to 3kW to coincide with extending its licence area.
thank you i knew we changed frequencies for a reason . i wasnt sure if it was that or if it because they changed studioes
I always presumed 97.4 was to have an additional offset to 97.1, as 97.3/97.5 might have been too close to other stations? 3BBB shifting then left that whole 97-99Mhz area free in Melbourne for all the low-power community stations to fill
Was 97.4 on when 3BBB was on 97.5? That would have caused more issues than a 97.1/97.5/97.7 troika. You could have had 3MDR on 97.1 and 3WRB taking up 97.5, with 3SER remaining on 97.7 on the opposite side of the city. Some Sydney sub metros are even closer than this e.g 99.9 SWR and 100.1 2HHH.
3WRB went to air in December 1989, so yes, 97.4 was on when 3BBB was on 97.5.
Well that certainly would have caused problems, two stations both on the same side of Melbourne within 0.1MHz of each other, no wonder they had to move to increase power
Good history lessons here, thanks for your contributions guys
Founded 1978, so I take it that would be December 1979?
1989 was when 3WRB gained a full-time licence, but I imagine it would’ve had a temporary licence prior to that.
Further to the above post made yesterday, I currently note that 89.7 2RES’s FM TX is now OFF AIR.
With no SpE or Tropo event in progress ATM there’s nothing to be heard on this frequency other than white noise.
