Community Radio

It seems to be broadcasting in mono only, the audio is very low and crackly.

That’s interesting. There’s a stereo pilot carrier there, but not the stereo sidebands or very little of them looking at the MPX spectrum with the SDR. What a mess!

Before the New Board and the installation of the Current Music Format the old 2YOU was fully volentry based with each presenter doing what they pleased so Traditional Community Radio. It was on it’s last legs and George Frame a bloke with extensive pro media experience came in and took over. He put in a format & has since built it up to be a semi professional outfit paying both sales & a selected core of pro air staff

Was wondering why I couldn’t hear them from down here in Bungendore, given that I was getting stations like Koori Radio and 2RRR. I only had 2XL Jindabyne on 107.3.

2SER’s FM 107.3 audio seems to be back to normal now.

88.9 Tamworth

What would be the number of overlapping sponsors with 88.9 and 2TM or 92.9?

Zero; there is no 89.9 FM Tamworth.

(Oh yes, I answered Socrates!)

I was talking to the contract tech for 2SER, & he said the TX took quite a hit, & he’s still waiting on parts to repair, (it’s an Elenos TX).

He also said the antenna has been damaged. He says it’s hanging in there, but won’t last running at full power, & with heavy rain it’s likely water will get in & it’s game over. He’s recommended a new antenna, not to repair it.

It would be great to get 2SER with a new antenna to Artarmon too!
Any chance of that happening?

Now that 2OOO has moved, 2SER is now easily the weakest of the metro wide Sydney stations here.

2SER have to protect 2WKT on 107.1, so less chance of that happening I feel. Plus it would decouple the station from UTS in a sense!

Won’t happen 2SER to Artarmon, would’ve liked it to, but they get free rent at UTS, so they’re not going to pay rent for the TX site, when they get it for free now.

I’ve moved this here as it’s not really related to DX, it’ll be everywhere.

I’ve spoken to the 2OOO tech & he said he has a problem with the STL & setup to the new TX at Artarmon, so he’s currently running with only L+R audio (in other words Mono) with 19kHz pilot at only 4% instead of 9-10%.

That’s why you’re only hearing mono audio & some places/radios aren’t picking up or showing the stereo pilot.

He hopes to have it fixed by early next week.

Interesting. I really must be more attentive to details in the MPX spectrum.
I’ve looked at the 19kHz stereo pilot carrier levels of many Sydney broadcasters.
Typically the pilot carriers are set around -23dB +/- 1dB,
as measured with SDR#. (SDR-Console MPX dB figures differ to those of SDR#).
I’m guessing these level figures are relative to the unmodulated carrier of 0dB??
Some of the low powered community stations vary a little more re pilot carrier levels.
2BACR has a really high pilot carrier level @ -14dB

I should add for those interested in RDS; 2BACR has switched their RDS back on sometime this week (maybe today?)
Radio 2OOO’s pilot carrier is measured at -30dB (SDR# MPX)
I’m still learning :grinning:

I noticed this morning that 2MBS is now taking news from the CRN. I thought I was getting TEM FM but not to be. Previously 2MBS ran a bulletin from the BBC at 0800.
