The finalists for the 2025 Community Broadcasting Awards have been announced! This year’s entries were as exciting as ever, with over 260 spanning more than 20 categories.

Listening to Fresh 92.7 this morning and the most recent ad break featured Harvey Norman, Sydney Tools, SA Police recruitment, all agency ads. Good on 'em for getting major ‘sponsors’.

Should we really still be required to adopt the ‘sponsor’ tag on ads on community radio? It’s a bit of a silly, legalistic, regulatory anachronism. Particularly outdated when paired with national advertisers. Time for an ACMA change methinks.

Speaking of Fresh, wow, Lukie has been cranking it this morning! Currently pounding out Indestructible by Becky Hill - sounding so good. This is what Wild would have sounded like had it survived:

I think so, some of them like Fresh sound pretty slick (I did listen to them for a bit when in Adelaide last week, they play some good songs too) and would pass for a commercial station without some kind of reminder (like the “station sponsor” tags) that they are still a not for profit community station.

Yeah. Good point. Actually the more I think about it, the more that makes sense. Not just because they have a community licence, but also because they’d be getting government grants on the basis of their NFP status.

I guess I was just thinking about the sponsor tags impeding their slick sound.

Maybe just say it after each block of ads - “station sponsors”?

Remembering Former Hope Media Chair and TV Legend Roger Climpson OAM: 1931-2025

Australian media icon and faithful leader of Hope Media Roger Climpson passed away peacefully early yesterday at 1am, aged 93.

Roger was best known for his decades-long work in radio and TV, hosting Seven Network shows This Is Your Life (1977–1980) and true crime reenactment series Australia’s Most Wanted (1997-1999). He also presented Sydney’s 2GB afternoon shift from 1977, and anchored Sydney’s Seven News between 1989 and 1994.

However, it was Roger’s strong Christian faith — “his love for God” and “love for communicating” — that saw him Chair the Board of the Christian Broadcasting Association (as Hope Media was known at the time) in 1995.

He steadfastly served the Sydney listening community for two decades before handing over the reins to former Hope Media Chair Stephen O’Doherty in 2005.

Hope Media CEO Phillip Randall said “Roger left a legacy of love, faith and vision at Hope Media. So much so, it’s virtually impossible to sum it all up in a few words”.

What FM community stations in Melbourne are mostly talkback?

Can’t detect any signal from 100.7 WOW-FM Western Sydney at the moment.

Anyone heard any gossip about the station recently?

I’ll try and find out through someone who knows someone, who knows someone….etc etc.

A quick online seaerch came up with this. Looks like they’re finished!

NOTIFICATION

	Dear Listeners,
Radio station WOW-FM 100.7 at St. Marys has been the community station
for the Nepean Valley and Lower Blue Mountains for many years.
Sadly, the station is no longer able to meet its financial obligations and
has appointed liquidators. This development has come as a shock to its
presenters, all of whom have lost their shows. It has, of course, also
impacted my own Saturday Night Rock and Roll Party Show, which will no
	longer be heard on WOW-FM.

Thanks for those posts. The end of 100.7 Wow FM…

I assume the plug was pulled late last week (past few days).

I guess we’ll now have a long drawn-out process to re-allocate the license to a new group, similar to what happened in Windsor a few years ago.

Yes. I was thinking the same thing, if there’s interest?

Thinking about closure of 97.4 3WRB in Melbourne, years later this remains a vacant frequency.

In the meantime hopefully the frequency stays vacant over the summer for the Sydney dxers

I didn’t think their signal got out very well anyway… even during strong Sydney tropo when nearly every other Sydney community station is loud and clear, 100.7 was still fairly weak for me.

For a long while (most of this year at least) the signal was very weak.

But early in the peace signal certainly was healthy & blocked most or many dx opportunities.

I remember listening to it Friday morning when I forgot it existed and tried to get Triple M Port Macquarie.

hit102.3 didn’t come in though so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Triple M
