Not really. An indigenous radio news service being broadcast on an indigenous radio station. It was the same for me when i worked for Ngaarda Media in the Pilbara region of WA.
Not a big loss really. If this is how they manage things like this, hand it over to another community group who will do the right thing. And respect community radio
That’s one sure-fire way to ensure they’re off the air in the not-too-distant future. What’s he gonna do next? Transfer money received from listeners of the station to his debit card?
Consider this station to be on life support now I guess with how he’s treating the station’s funds. They’re essentially on a highway to bankruptcy.
It’s worth noting the individual in question was sacked by members in April 2023. The two-year ban on state government grants appears to run out in early 2026.
No doubt they’ve been struggling, but this sort of thing doesn’t mean a certain loss of license. I don’t even know to what extent ACMA considers governance issues like in their license renewal processes, particularly if the station has taken steps to identify and fix a past problem. No doubt the report from Deloitte will help them fix the gaps in their governance. Their main challenge will be fixing their current cash shortage.
Presenters don’t HAVE just stay pigeon holed into whatever format they do first. Many are talented enough to do different things.
Ugly Phil has gone from Hot AC on 2Day to Classic Hits on WSFM in Sydney. Garth Russell in Newcastle has done Morning Zoo breakfast on NEW FM and 1233 ABC morning talkback. Ray Hadley has done talkback and called football on both 2GB and 2UE. I’m sure there are many other examples.
Back in the day, John Pearce (2GB) could call cricket, read the news, commentate a boxing match, do talkback (his specialty) and play records. Classic all-rounder!
