Something wrong with 4AAA - signal spreading out and at lower strength with no RDS
Picking up on seek here, I do have LOS to the site. Definitely distorted. Co sited services sound fine.
No problem on digital, save for lower signal on all multiplexes due to commissioning of the new array/TX.
RDS is back and bandwidth fixed but strength seems to be down compared to others - to left are 4EBI and 973 and 96.5. To right are Bridge and Bay community
2OOO FM & DAB off air since about 1:30am Friday, due to a fire in the studio building comms room, it melted all the fibre’s coming in, so they have no links out to either DAB or FM, different links/fibre, their online streaming is also down obviously as they have no communications out of the building, the tech is waiting to hear from someone there about whether to put a 5G link in for temporary comms out or even put a backup audio tape at the TX site, but no one’s answering his calls/communications.
At this stage NBN.co are coming Monday to see what they can repair/replace, but it’s unknown at this stage when they might be back on air?
Does anyone know the type of listener share Fresh 92.7 holds in Adalade and would it be enough for a commercial station to try format?
Enough for Nova to mention in their sales prop’s that Fresh isnt a “real radio station” and is only community.
Considering the commercial ratings I would say Fresh’s audience would be quite large.
They do a great job, They have made their own brand, are they are leaders in Dance music.
Would it be commercially viable? I would say yes
Would the Commericals try a dance format like fresh on a station such as 2day?
nope… they wouldnt take the risk
Lime FM here in Mt Gambier where I am tonight is another example of family friendly commercial music being blended with Christian music.
I do prefer this format to the overtly Christian one that Rhema uses. And if it helps them financially in doing so, that’s fine with me.
Like Hope 103.2 and 96five?
Yep exactly like that.
And 89.9 The Light.
They are back on air today. The sound is the same as it was prior to them going off air.
There’s already Dance Hits, Gorilla and iheartDance on DAB, as commercial formats.
Dance Super Digi is also currently on air however it usually goes silent after a month or two, so I’d be surprised if it’s stil on air by Christmas.
All the commercials seem to gravitate toward the center, i guess its safe but just look at Triple M and Hits ratings, down down down at least in the cap cities where there is some form of competition, Smooth is about as diverse as you seem to get on FM.
I still dont see DAB as a creditable threat to FM anytime soon, online streaming however might be a different story… however, there is still a huge chunk of the population that love good old fashion analog radio, so for these folks, we have community radio, narrowcasting, SBS and ABC for some actual diversity.
I would argue the Pure Gold format on eg. WS or 104.3 is the most diverse… you can hear Adele or AC/DC, Belinda Carlisle or Billy Idol, etc
What I also like about WSFM and Gold 104.3 is that they also tend to play modern classics from artists such as Lifehouse, U2, Nickelback, Bon Jovi and OneRepublic, while I’ve even heard “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”by Justin Timberlake (which was only released in 2016) on the former station.
Not sure if they did get back on air yesterday at any stage, but 2OOO FM are definitely not on air today, FM links are dead as a dodo, DAB is not on air either.
I did check 98.5 last night & just unmodulated carrier.
I did check their website & found this message.
Notice
18 Sep 2023 8.30am – Attention Broadcasters:
Regret to announce that radio station had been facing technical issues over weekend possibly due the reported fire incident in the building on 15Sep23 afternoon. Many programs from afternoon of 15Sep23 till this morning has been effected. We will update the developments – once technician notifies progress.
Their Twitter & Facebook accounts don’t have much love though.
Who pays the 98.5FM transmitter electricity costs? I wonder when there’s an extended outage like this if someone makes a cost/carbon saving decision to keep a transmitter going (or not) until the studio feed is fixed. I guess an intended time frame for restoration is a consideration.
2OOO FM does, it’s no different to TXA whether it stays on or not, last I spoke to the contract tech (Saturday) he hasn’t heard anything back from 2OOO FM board, so can’t do anything or offer anything until he does. He’s offered a number of things & ways around the fault, but until someone at 2OOO says yes or no, nothing’s happening & they don’t seem urgent to talk to him about it.
From other feedback & experiences they’re an odd broadcaster to try to communicate with.
Thanks for the feedback
My apologies, I’m getting mixed up with Koori 93.7.
