100.9 2BACR (Bankstown, Sydney) is no more.
The station has enacted a name change to:- âConnect FMâ
It can be heard giving IDâs as: 'Connect FM, one hundred point 9"
âConnect FMâ - a great name for a community FM station.
Certainly easier to remember the name & rolls off the tongue easily. ![]()
Agree, thatâs a great name and an accurate reflection of what community radio should be.
2BACR was a bit of s clunky name, letâs hope they can improve the signal again too.
Early this morning I had music fade up over Bathurst, unlikely to have been Port Stephens. If it was Bankstown then they have improved their signal as this peaked at 2 bars. The only other possibility would be extended meteor scatter from ZZZ Lismore. Sydney stations were enhanced this morning.
Has it only recently changed on-air? Itâs been the new name in the CBAA app for a little while (the visual branding didnât really change beyond the name), but I never really gave it a listen. Agree, and although I guess some will complain that the name has few ties to the local area, the branding still has to be right.
2CCR becoming âAlive 90.5â in the sub-metro market north of 100.9âs also comes to mind in that respect, although I guess that sorta risked being mistaken for a Christian station if not careful.
The one I mistook for a Christian station is 2WAY FM Port Macquarie. There is 1WAY FM here in Canberra and also 7WAY FM in Launceston, both of which are Christian community stations.
There is also a 3WAY FM in Warrnambool, which I donât think is a Christian station.
It would be ironic if it was to be fair.
Yes itâs a general community station. Forgot about that one.
I was thinking this morning when I first noted the name change that it had been at least 3-4 months since Iâd last listened to the station. In fact it must have been longer as I went searching through the stationâs Facebook page & apparently the name change occurred around April 26th.
Thatâs what I thought too.
Yes I noted a slight enhancement to ABC Canberra stations early this morning too.
Yes itâs possible it was Connect FM. The station does play a lot of music & has a fairly wide bandwidth.

No WHCR (TCBL) on 89.9MHz today (post midday), just the background hiss of dead air.
The whole 89.9 situation in the Hawkesbury is a total farce. All I can say is I hope the people who worked overtime to bring down the original Hawkesbury Radio are happy. They are solely responsible for the mess that local radio is in now. If they thought this would do good, it has had the exact opposite effect. Having spent 15 years there with 5 of those on the board, it really saddens me, but doesnât surprise me that people with a clear agenda are out there to cause as much damage as possible. They have zero interest in the community and what transpired over the weekend with the Hawkesbury Gold situation is evidence of that.
