How did 2MCE get their Orange translator?

Again if you listen to Lithgow radio there seems to be plenty of links between Bathurst and Lithgow. 2LT / Move fm has a significant amount of advertising outside of their licence area, and of course Bathurst weather.

Do the Orange stations have Bathurst advertisers?

Not sure how, but I think they’ve had it for a long time… and I think predates the other community stations in Orange on 103.5 and 107.5.

2MCE’s licence area (Bathurst RA2) covers Orange.

When I was in Bathurst in April 2014, I saw a flyer by 2GZ (as it was known then) on a number of businesses that was promoting what I think was a campaign for small businesses.

I think 94.7 Orange might predate the Broadcasting Services Act (1992) so it’s rather a case of making the licence area to fit the legacy arrangement.

2MCE was one of the first (if not the first) regional community stations. I am not sure if they were set up originally to broadcast lectures and other educational material. Charles Sturt University does have a campus in Orange so this is probably the reason for the translator. Of course 2MCE predates even CSU (1989) as it stands for the Mitchell College of Education, the original occupant of the Bathurst campus.

Local Fed MP is Andrew Gee? National, Calare? Have him on side and thy will be done.

Darren Chester made it happen for Ace at Bemm River.

ALP missed their chance with community radio votes to assist with TX site costs.

Pre BSA, pre 1992; hence the BSA RA2 for 2MCE.

@TV-Expert Excellent observation from 2014. I wonder if if the financially emancipated SCA of today would bother?

@dxnerd Spot on re 2MCE. The 1989 Broadcasting and Television stations book from the DOTC has 2MCE as a specialist community licence.

103.5 3MBS during their Radiothon broadcast mentioned that in late 2021 they’d upgraded equipment that has resulted in a stronger signal throughout Melbourne & surrounds. Has anyone in the area noted an improvement?

I remember when i was at Hawkesbury Radio, we were extremely strict with stuff like that. Gig guides were prohibited for that reason which irked quite a few presenters, mostly country music presenters. We stood firm on it.

Yes- I have actually sent an email to the Braidwood FM board about this just now. I am always extremely careful with any commercial references.

Currently of limited use to me without carplay that they have promised to roll out in the future. Seems like a big omission for a mobile app. Was pretty disappointed after installing it to find it didn’t have the feature.

Don’t Apple and Google have some control over which apps make it onto their car platforms? I don’t think this is necessarily community radios fault.

I don’t think that is the issue as it is already approved for the app store.

Their original release said the following

More features will be rolled out soon, where listeners will be able to access their favourite station through Google Nest devices, and in the car via Apple Carplay and Android Auto

Apple do control the apps that can be carplay compatible, but this mostly to ensure the apps don’t distract the driver, or require them to pick up there phone. the process is simple, you apply to apple, get the profile allowing you to add carplay in xcode create the app, and push it to apple. apple will than go tough the normal evaluation process, including checking the carplay part meets requirements than publish it.

Last time i applied for carplay entitlement it took a week for the correct profile to be supplied to me
