Comedy Central

Comedy Central has launched an Australian website, with full-ish episodes of the Daily Show and a few other programmes.

The AFR reporting today that Comedy Central will be on Fetch from 1 April (see @spw68 ) :stuck_out_tongue:

Wonder what day that is?

Here’s the pre-launch loop they’re running that I’ve captured off Fetch TV:

Sorry about the audio quality – the program seems to want to capture from the microphone instead of the actual audio stream…

channel is up, shame they have decided to put the watermark in top left instead of bottom right like in the US, and instead of just the CC logo, they have the full text underneath.

Video is low quality as well unfortunately, just like other viacom channels on the service like MTV.

Comedy Central has axed The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, with this Thursday’s episode (US time) to be the last. The show began in January 2015 replacing The Colbert Report.

Powerhouse Polynesian Women Bring A Local Voice To Comedy.

Comedy Central And Sky Greenlight ‘SIS’ For A Six-Part Series With The Support Of NZ On Air.

Comedy Central and Sky today announced the commissioning of a new six-part series from New Zealand creators Culture Factory following the remarkable success of the one-hour comedy special, SIS .

Slated to premiere in 2021, the sketch format series will continue where the one-hour special left off and will follow the hilariously relatable millennial misadventures of cousins Malia, Gee Gee and Miki as they learn about life, love and sisterhood.

Made with the support of NZ On Air, the series is set to continue to break fresh ground for content in New Zealand. The original comedy special was praised for its unapologetic depiction of a generation of Polynesian women under a unique comedic lens.

Creator Hanelle Harris said: "We are so grateful to our people and communities for their love and support for the SIS special which premiered earlier this year in July. Originally SIS was meant to be a one-off! But because of our audience, we now have the incredible opportunity to make a full season.

SIS is more than a television series – it’s a movement. This is a show for us and by us. We stand on the shoulders of our tupuna [ancestors] as we strive to carve out space for the dreams of our future generations, especially our Polynesian women."

Premiering on Sky, the six-part series will also be available to view online at comedycentral.co.nz, followed by a free-to-air broadcast on Prime.

SIS is produced by Culture Factory creators Hanelle Harris, Karin Williams, Jadin Leslie, Maiya Thompson & Ruby Reihana Wilson.

New Zealand produces a lot fresh and innovative programs while Australia is stuck in a rut producing reboots of shows from decades ago.

I’d probably say that the ABC & SBS still bring new and interesting ideas to the table every now and again, but in recent years our commercial networks have definitely been obsessed with reboots and “the big four” reality formats - talent, cooking, renovation and dating/relationship/wedding.
