CNN

thank god because the UK version is EXTREMELY dated and only for an audience of over 60’s inner-London viewers.

Michael Holmes has announced his retirement from CNN, 28 years with CNN. Fellow Australian Rosemary Church surprised him with a look back at his career.

Genuinely very sad to hear this. But I had a feeling he would go soon. His Bluesky handle doesn’t mention CNN and it would explain why they hired VICE’s Ben Hunte as an anchor. Such a shame. He was the first Australian anchor on CNN.

Incidentally someone on Pres Cafe reckons John Vause (another Australian!) hasn’t been seen on air since September. Hope he hasn’t gone too… Anna Coren seems to be covering most of his shifts from Hong Kong.

Rosemary Church posted a farewell post on Instagram in it, it had some pics of the four Aussie’s in Atlanta out for dinner, John Vause has his elbow in a big brace so it seems he’s on the injury list at the moment.

Sad… but not surprising. She very rarely presented after coming off that late night slot last year. I know her husband was ill, but I wonder if there wasn’t also some behind-the-scenes skullduggery. I believe there was some carry-on after she was papped holding hands with Jeff Zucker at one of Don Lemon’s parties. Which if true, is pathetic… but it just shows how petty some of these execs are.

Will Warner Bros. Discovery Sell CNN? - Puck (PAYWALLED)

As for the future of the cable networks, the most obvious outcome may be the most likely: Each of these mediacos will spin their channels into the wilderness (without debt in NBC’s case, with debt in WBD’s case), where they’ll eventually be rebundled, merge with each other, or be monetized by private equity, perhaps ending up a part of some grim mega-colossus akin to Barry Diller’s Dotdash Meredith, but for cable. But that’s still a few years down the road. Right now, everyone is preserving their beloved “optionality.”

Several media executives have told me they anticipate [CNN] will be sold off by the end of next year. In a recent note, LightShed media analysts Rich Greenfield and Brandon Ross said they expect WBD “to be opportunistic selling non-core assets, such as CNN or Food Network, neither of which is driving the Max story.” If so, CNN could join MSNBC in the wilderness, cut loose from the growth-oriented streaming business. Of course, no one is quite sure who would buy the asset, though Jeff Zucker’s name reliably, and unsurprisingly, comes up any time one broaches the topic.

CNN Saturday Morning replaced The Chris Wallace Show, with minimal changes to graphics. Audie Cornish is your host.
