CNN

It’s honestly enough to make you turn off the channel. Especially that one from the start of the Russia Ukraine war about the presenter whose Dad lost an election 50 years ago :joy:

“Business trends of the future…” “news happens fast and travels faster…” “stay informed, stay invested, stay connected…” “join meee, Zain Asher, for Marketplace Africaaaaa…” “I’m rrrrRichard Quest! I LOVE travelling the world!”

Much more of the above and I think we’ll both need professional help! It’s the same few trailers over and over. Abysmal. The sort of thing you’d play at Guantanamo Bay.

And BBC News is worse… they have this horrible filler which consists of a version of the countdown music that goes on for a million years with some looped footage and the words “we’ll be right back” in the middle of the screen. At least Al Jazeera has the sense to play an old report if they need to fill some time.

Yes! Haha it’s the same, over and over.

Richard Quest is so bloody overrated. He drives me nuts.
But yes spot on. You’ve nailed them.

Ha ha, it really is terrible. I actually love Quest but he’s definitely a polarising figure!

Looks like the CNN feed is the US one now? I’m seeing a lot of variation of even ads in the breaks now…. Is someone in here from CNN/ Fox? If so THANK YOU and keep it this way.

I still can’t believe that in this day and age they send people out to sit in the storms. What would have happened if that was a legitimate piece of debris that could have seriously injured or killed him! It’s mindless

I agree. At some point someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. Sending people out amongst that is dangerous and does not provide the viewer anything that a remote camera couldn’t achieve, besides some theatre. If anything, you’d think the company would have a duty of care not only to their staff, but to viewers watching who think its ok to join them outside.

There needs to be some laws or movement to prevent this sort of coverage happening.

Also applies to Australian networks that sent reporters to a place that authorities had asked everyone to evacuate.

Some distraction away from the doomed Election results… Ahead of CNBC’s launch in Brazil, CNN Brasil launched a business-focused second channel, CNN Money. The channel boasts a 12-hour live schedule, plus giving a platform for respectable CNN business journalists there. I’m guessing this is also their second try at doing a dedicated CNBC competitor, after CNNfn from the mid-90s (nope - that title apparently went to CNN Money Switzerland, from 2018 to 2020)?

Here’s CNN Brasil reporting their launch:

The pushback with indices, headlines, etc. Looks more like something conjured for an investment guru’s livestream! Also seen here were Abertura de Mercado, focusing on Brazilian stock market opening; and TOTH CNN Money News.

Some other shows include Morning Call at 7am:

And end-of-market report, Fechamento de Mercado:

The studio was really small - probably a stopgap measure just to get ahead of CNBC?

Chris Wallace will not extend his contract with CNN, with his scheduled programmes to end by December, and will go independent in the future.

Good enough to have a second season, apparently.

I haven’t watched it myself, but all the reviews and online reactions I’ve seen are quite positive.

There also seemed to be a lot of positive comments (at least on the video I watched) of Roy Wood Jr’s episode of the British version as well.

I’ve watched a couple of episodes and I have to admit it isn’t bad - I was worried that some of it wouldn’t necessarily translate to an American version but its been slightly adjusted to make it work.

Roy Wood Jr is a really good selection as host
