Well I just went on a road trip to escape the rain and now I’ve come back to even more of it!

The nearby Lake Macquarie weather station has had 214 mm of rain so far this month.. but i guess that’s nothing to Port Macquarie, which has already had a whopping 482 mm… :scream:

Rain? What’s that?

Just endless blue skies and we copped a severe frost this morning. It feels like 1982 again, our driest ever year. Hopefully June is different.

I hope that changes for you. The last thing that part of the world needs is a repeat of 1983.

The Taree floods was the first item on ABC’s 7pm Victorian bulletin tonight.

1 in 500 year flood.

Natural Hazards Research Australia chief executive Andrew Gissing said the flooding was the biggest on record for the area, and a one-in-500-year event.

I hate it when they say things like a ā€˜1 in a 500 year event’ … because we keep hearing that about floods every 2 or 3 years now…

Thankfully a westerly change is on the cards for the weekend which will cause some warmer, drier weather on the East Coast, with some rain returning to the southern states. Unfortunately the westerly rain may be confined to the favourable areas about the VIC/SA coastline; Bendigo may stay mostly dry.

How long the westerly air lasts is anyone’s guess, probably not long given that the next high is likely to dive southward again.

Even here- 10 minutes drive west of the GDR- we’ve been struggling for rain this month. Anywhere from Canberra westwards is drought affected according to the NSW DPI. Today we finally got a steady soaking. At Braidwood the soil is saturated, though still nothing compared to further north.

Unfortunately we might see more of this going forward. ā€˜Goldilocks’ weather- not too wet/dry/hot- is basically a thing of the past.

I’m over the rain, we’ve already had over 300 mm this month where i am, but even then, that’s half of what the Mid North Coast has received. Ridiculous.

Some parts of the MNC have had as much rain from this event as Bungendore gets in a good year. Must have been a nice change for you going to the parched Riverina, though personally I’d rather be too wet than too dry.

Agree, that’s part of the reason why i went for an inland road trip, but only to find I’ve come home to even more rain! Sigh

I prefer dry weather myself, but yes, sadly we do need rain sometime.

Yep, you go crazy when you get the same thing day in, day out (though I’d never get tired of snow). It’s the sunshine and relative aridity that’s maddening here. In Tassie it’s the wind, relentless day after day in winter. And in most parts of coastal NSW, it’s the rain and stifling humidity. It’s humidity that I detest the most, so I have to put up with more sunshine to get lower dew points!

Rain or humidity? Hmmm, i hate both

At least I’m not in Nth Qld where you get both at the same time!

Snow? Hey oh (there’s a song about that). I’ve never seen snow here, that’d be a new one here for me.

Rain and humidity go hand in hand in the warmer months, even at Bungendore’s elevation. Humidity is the price you pay for some moisture in summer and so I put up with a bit of it, particularly if it quells the fire risk. But stifling coastal humidity is thankfully rare here.

Of course there are many days on the coast with high dewpoints and no rain; this is common in a Tasman Sea block with NZ tropo. Worst possible combination weather wise but great for DX!

Some of the rain which hit the NSW Mid North Coast will begin to drift towards Victoria in the next few days.

10 to 60 mm depending where you are (over the next 7 days). That’s barely a drizzle to us.

It’s already started to hit in Albury (constant rain since about 4pm). It’s actually done a really good job of following the path of the Hume Highway on it’s way down.
