Climate, Weather and Emergencies

Interesting watching some of these aircraft trying to get into BNE. One 737 after repeated missed approaches seems to be diverting north. A320 up next. Few Dash 8s got in.

Crosswind nearly 40 knots down the runway. Sideways landings.

This Jetstar flight looks like it didn’t even try to land at Brisbane, they’re heading straight to the Sunshine Coast instead.

“Cyclonic” winds in Brisbane tonight plus heavy rain.

Well looks like the power is out…

The dash 8 got in. Amazing hand skills.

Oh, Hervey Bay  Have a personal connection with the town going back decades! Prayers.

ABC AM services are current off air due to the ex-cyclone Alfred rain and flooding: 612 ABC Brisbane, and 792 Radio national, 936 News radio are all affected. ABC Brisbane was already broadcasting on 106.1MHz ABC Classic and is continuing there. The DAB service is unaffected.

I was wondering which would have the best back up facilities (out of AM and DAB) and assumed AM would stay on air. But taking over the FM classic frequency was a great idea.

Im not sure whether this is confirmed yet but I think abc classic may have issues its starting to cut out.

Note to discuss this in the Cyclone Coverage area.

612 is back on air.

Finally just got power again after 19 hrs.

Taken just moments ago from the BoM site.

Not very often at this time of year you see Brisbane with the lowest temp of all capitals, and Darwin one of the lowest.

Sapporo and the rest of Hokkaido are still obscenely snowy in March. Pretty much still peak ski season. Tokyo is in a rain/snow shadow so it doesn’t snow there often period, though it’s still more common than in Bungendore which pretty much has similar temperatures in winter.

In Australia we suffer at the back end of winter due to hot air streaming down from the warming interior, but in northern Japan that’s not a problem as Siberia is still frigid well into spring, and there’s no large continent directly towards the Equator to warm things up prematurely.
