This might’ve been the night that The Chaser’s War on Everything aired their infamous “Make a Realistic Wish” skit? Or was it on the two week break the show took after that debacle?

What I definitely sure about though, is that Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcett passed away shortly after with those two celebrity deaths (especially the former) resulting in extended news coverage on the Friday + some modified programming on the weekend.

I remember that a decade ago. The show was off air for 2 weeks before returning for a series finale in late July.

The death of Michael Jackson dominated news headlines in Australia and the world.

It was their 1st episode back after their 2 week suspension.

On a side note, the 3rd season of the War on Everything wasn’t as good as the first 2 seasons.

Ahh, thanks for refreshing that memory!

I agree that aside from the infamous skit, the 3rd season of The Chaser’s War on Everything just wasn’t as good as the 1st and 2nd seasons particularly since segments such as “What We’ve Learnt From Current Affairs This Week?” and “The Ad Road Test” (probably their two most popular) didn’t return.

Just before the digital channels where they were able to slot in shows like friends on the main channel At 4pm. The schedules were so much better then

It was probably also that politicians (which were a good target for them) and their security were even more wary after they pulled that stunt in Sydney for that big conference when Chas dressed as Osama Bin Laden was somehow smuggled into what was supposed to be a highly secured area in a fake motorcade.

That was the end of the first week of The Block’s fourth season which marked the beginning of MasterChef’s ratings decline. MasterChef’s ratings were on similar levels as the record breaking second season before Nine decided to show The Block at 7pm (or 7 O’Block as Nine called it) which not only took viewers from The Project, but also the first half of MasterChef. MasterChef managed to regain most viewers when The Block finished, but was no longer dominant in the 7.30pm timeslot.
2011 was also the first year of Seven’s broadcast of Wimbledon.

Enough promos for QTQ9 there?

Does anybody know when the QLD regionals started to relay QTQ9 News? I know DDQ10 was the exception as all they initially did was take QTQ9 News off-air being so close to Brisbane. When was the actual microwave link set up fot ther rest of QLD? I’m guessing early 70’s?

I can’t answer for the rest of Queensland, but this article from TV Week in June 1973 announces the expansion of QTQ9 news and A Current Affair being picked up for direct relay by WBQ8 Maryborough.

Based on the list of relays listed prior to each bulletin, RTQ had joined by 1974 and the link had reached Cairns in 1975.

SES 8 changed to GTV 9 news when the Victorian regionals changed, before switching to NWS 9 in 1991.

Have a look at the ID from 1990 (at 17:10) and watch out for the shot from National Nine News in Melbourne:

Brilliant, thanks all. I suspect by 1987 all regional stations had access to satellite’s so they could pick which news service they wanted to relay from Brisbane unlike previously where regional QLD was all all nothing. And with 7 & 0 airing one hour news in 1987, Nine would have been more appealing so they could slot in 30 mins of Brisbane news and local regional news before or after QTQ9 news.
