Classic TV Listings

I’d be surprised if anyone was still watching 10 TV Australia by this stage.

Ratings were low but they were still sitting around low 20s shares. There were some highlights even though things were fairly ordinary the rest of the time.

Neighbours was still a top rating show for them. And IIRC they still had NSW Rugby League which did well in Sydney. Some movies did well for them.

I was living at Yass near Canberra at the time AND I watched some Channel 10 shows. It was this year that Ten aired State Of Origin. Also the notes for Prime and Capital where they said no variations were not accurate.

At this time, Press Your Luck was at 3:30pm, Wheel Of Fortune was at 5pm on Prime, 5:30pm Home And Away and Prime had a newshour between 6pm and 7pm. Family Feud returned after Press Your Luck ended, episodes of Family Feud were caught up due to repeats airing over Summer breaks.

Capital had at 6pm Capital Eyewitness News

Yeah it’s been doing the rounds. I posted it on the Lost Newcastle page since it has and NBN pre Aggregation listing on it and the fact that plenty of houses in Newcastle had the large roof top antennas. It comes from one of those old school free tv guides you could pick up from Fish and Chip shops or corner shops etc.

If you look at regional affiliates back then to now, it shows that now the regionals have little to no money AND that they are now pretty much a feeder station for the metro stations. If you look at WIN there was sections of the day where you could see alternate viewing to the state capitals. The biggest disappointment for me was WIN dropping Diff’rent Strokes for Bravestarr.

It also showed less of a reliance for income from paid presentations (infomercials)

Yeah as somebody who spent quite a bit of time in the upper hunter where you could get NEN9 from Tamworth. It was basically rebranded as Prime Television and was basically the Channel 7 affiliate by then anyway.

do you know if in 1990, did The Midday Show return to Prime or did they air the midday movie in Tamworth? Also did they air Days Of Our Lives in 1990 on Prime or air Perry Mason instead on Prime Tamworth?

I really don’t remember. I was only ever there on weekends and School Holidays. Cause my Dad lived up there for a number of years when i was a kid

Thing that interested me back then was live programming.

TCN and NBN had less than half a second between them, but when watching The Midday Show on ECN8, there was at least a 30 second delay.

Ah yes, I remember these. Free TV guides from the local fruit or fish & chip shop. And you can tell they were free given the lack of proofreading, lol.

Oh you mean like in this ones that lists Joan Sydney as a star of Dynasty instead of Joan Collins in the NBN TV listings?

Today’s TV: 2 February 2003, Perth

I noticed that Nine broadcasted the ING One Day Domestic Cup live. However on WIN, they did not screen the cricket match live.

SBS programs “three hours earlier in country areas”. Great that they get to see Kinky Friedman Proud To Be An Asshole while they’re having their dinner

Could’ve been a lot worse. Kinky Friedman Shows You His Asshole anyone? Remember all the great cult movies that they used to have? Dinner and a move indeed.

And if you don’t know who Kinky Friedman is…

Back on topic - GWN seems to have some different movies on compared to TVW. I thought GWN was basically a semi-satellite of TVW by 2003?

I noticed that Seven still had The World Around Us. Documentary series has for some time taken a back seat. Also noting the difference in what we had in NSW for Sunday Morning religious programs as opposed to WA. Did WA screen Turn Round Australia or Wesley Impact back then?

Living in WA with Foxtel and SBS on AEDT would be so cool! You got better programmes in prime time than those living on the east coast! For instance Showtime Premiere (now known as Movies Premiere) used to show its best movies after 10.30pm AEDT/7.30pm WA. Also you got to see English Premier League live in better timeslots!

The Kinky Friedman doco is on Youtube.
