Not much else to watch at 9:30 other than World News Tonight.

Always a thumbs up for Bert in the morning though!

That 9:30pm movie Fail Safe on Nine was apparently decent (7.4 on IMDb). Released in the US on 9 April 2000 so Nine has managed to get this movie and air it a day later. That has to be a record.

I’d not heard of it before but apparently it was performed live-to-air on US television and broadcast in black and white as a remake of a 1964 production. Maybe it was timed for (close to) simultaneous broadcast internationally?

EDIT: It must have been a late programming change by Nine, as well. TV Week’s listing for 10 April 2000 has Sex And The City at 9.30, Veronica’s Closet at 10.00, The Sopranos at 10.30, then Nightline etc from 11.35.

This has been bugging me as April is not cricket season! I’ve been digging and this match is actually match 1 of the Centenary Challenge from the WACA Ground in Perth. A three match ODI series between Old Australia and Old England, comprised of the respective XIs who competed in the Centenary Test in 1977. Matches were also played in Adelaide and Brisbane.

Interesting points:

  • The WACA Ground had hosted a VFL match in the previous Friday night
  • some players were wearing microphone and talking with the commentators, I believe this was the first time this had been used
  • Max Walker and Tony Greig both commentating in the box during their team’s innings, which would’ve precluded Tangles from hosting WWOS earlier from Melbourne.

Here’s some highlights from this match, not sure if there’s any more floating around. Can’t quite recall who the gist is but is familiar, any ideas?

Wild that this reviewer has given Good Morning Australia a thumbs up, but apparently first run eps of Friends and Law and Order: SVU both get thumbs down!

Here’s their reviews. It appears Good Morning Australia only got the thumbs up because of Bert.

who wrote the reviews for Friends and Law and Order SVU, Ross Warneke?

I remember when Nine’s cricket matches live from Perth used a different font to the matches held in other states. Must be because STW9 wasn’t considered a part of the Nine Network at the time, but held the rights to cricket. This was pre-NEW10 and pre-1988 when TVW and STW joined the Seven and Nine networks respectively.

Nine broadcast the 3-game ODI series in South Africa. Possibly the last time a bilateral cricket series from overseas has been broadcast on FTA (outside of The Ashes/tours of England).

Four programs getting the thumbs up I see.

Including (what I think) was the penultimate episode of the first season of The Mole.

Grant Bowler made the show what it was, Tom Williams and Shura Taft ruined their respective seasons (sadly).

Apologies if someone asked you this before, but do you just remember this? Is there something you look up when you post these recaps or are you running off memory?

Was The Morning Shift supposed to be competition for GMA like when The Morning Show was competition for Mornings around seven years later?
