Does anyone know why Nine seemed to always air Late Show with David Letterman… so late? (usually after midnight)
After it switched to Ten it was on at a much more palatable time after the Late News/Sports Tonight.

I remembered watching that International Rules match between Ireland and Australia before I headed off to school. I wonder whether that game was shown live?
Because Nine had more content in its schedule, often Nightline would run at 11.30 then programming would decide which program was a higher priority for midnight, sometimes Letterman, sometimes it was the other program. WIN however made more of an effort in running it more consistently at midnight, often swapping Nine’s midnight program for it.
Ten however generally had more gaps to fill. At one stage, Ten were also scheduling Letterman at midnight. I think that was a bit later on.
Of course, this was the day Australian soccer changed forever for the good. A major turning point for the sport in this country IMO.
I remembered watching this aged 11
A McLeod’s Daughters doubleheader and a Lindsay Lohan film were counter-programming that night on 9 and 7
“The Parent Trap” was also the same movie Seven showed as counter-programming to the NRL Grand Final on Nine in 2003.
Thomas the Tank on ABC at 3:25pm. I must have missed that one as a child.
Was an afternoon staple as a kid

I remembered that time when Who Wants to Be a millionaire aired at 7PM (replacing Monday Episodes of Temptation) during that time. There were notable changes including a bonus 16th question was on offer which is worth $5 million.
Thomas used to always be on before the afternoon airing of Play School, at 3:55 pm pre 1999 and at 3:25 pm from 1999 onwards, when Play School changed to 3:30pm. I think it aired for the first time in Australia in around 1987.
Next year will be the 40th anniversary of S01. ABC should put an archive on iview
I know the actual show, I was referring to the fact that they omitted Engine from the listing. Changing Thomas from a train to a tank.

I noticed that Channel 9 Perth aired Sale of the Century at an earlier time at 5:30pm. Back in the early days, they screened Sale at 7pm nationwide. However, Channel 9 Perth opted to air Sale at 5:30pm. Instead, US Sitcom Friends took over at 7pm timeslot. (as a result, Burgo’s Catch Phrase was bumped from 5:30pm to 5pm.) The reason why Channel 9 Perth moved the show to an earlier timeslot is because of decreasing ratings. But At least it went up against Channel 7’s Wheel of Fortune.
I miss Glenn Ridge and Sale of the Century more and more with every passing year.
