Sydney (and other areas) also had amateur TV on UHF

We had those in Melbourne as well but I never saw anything other than heavily snowy pictures but could make out that they put their call-sign on screen. They seemed to just show still pictures, I suppose they carried audio as well but I can’t recall. As an outsider I never really saw the point of amateur TV because they never really showed anything, just guys broadcasting glorified test patterns?

A very early form of Community Television?

Educational television, as it was licenced for a specific purpose - as an experimental station I gather. UNSW also had an AM off-band radio station VL2UV.

The University of Sydney had an in-house video operation to record and playback lectures but I can’t find any evidence that they had a broadcasting licence.

What people could receive was the amateur repeater station. Amateur licencees would broadcast their signal to that and have it relayed. So a lot of the time there was no input into the repeater. I would occasionally pick up the SEQ from Ocean View and see one someone’s travel videos; or even just photos.

Fidgeon even had his cartoons appear in Mad Magazine back in the late 1980s.

Perfect Match, Willesee, a reboot of Blankety Blanks (this time hosted by Daryl Somers), Sale of the Century.

While reruns of the original were airing over on 10 in the afternoon!

…and if I’m not mistaken, the logo for Channel 4 UK is in there too! :open_mouth:

Also noticed Come And Get It, with Peter Russell Clarke, he was very popular then.

I used to rush home from school to catch the re-runs of the original
