This was probably the last year before HHIS phased out the cartoons.
ABV2 was probably showing a test pattern most of the day with transmission not starting until 4pm.
Back when TCN made local programs that were only shown in Sydney, such as TV Form Guide. The Home Show with Joe the Gadget Man was also shown on WIN and NBN.
Quite a different line up between the 2 cities. Viewers in Sydney copped a whole hour of Let’s Make A Deal unlike half an hour in Melbourne. The late movies were the same on TCN & GTV so I guess they were networked.
That doesn’t look like '99 to me… more like 96 or 97
But it is from 1999. One of the things that caught my eye is the repeat of the Gladiators’ Ashes final, that originally aired in 1996! It looks the show had lots of loyal followers that wanted to see it again, almost 3 years after it ended.
Sorry to go back to this post, but I got that impression that ABCB changed things as they were making it out in their annual reports (all available online BTW). Happy to be proven wrong though, I wasn’t there, unless you believe in past lives, etc…
Also, why did it impact WIN more than NBN? It seems like WIN was on its last legs and NBN wasn’t? People in Newcastle could get Sydney channels.
… I can only go on what I was told (by Bill Lean) because I wasn’t there either (still a Pom at that time ), but he (and everyone else involved at the time) were not impressed by the ABCB’s failure to take stronger action and simply “let the market decide” … however I suspect they didn’t have much of a choice given the ownership rules at the time …
… again, from what I understand … WIN was owned by a consortium of local businessmen who didn’t have a “Plan B” … NBN, on the other hand, was owned by the Lamb family who did a deal with Frank Packer for shares in return for access to programming … they also sold a chunk to Murdoch when he bought WIN and later did a deal with him for NWS 9 …

‘Off To The Races’ must have been popular as all the regional stations showed it. ATV-0 had a lot of short lived local shows in their daytime line up.
