It was a CNN news bulletin that aired as part of News Overnight. Bobbie Batista used to present it sometimes.

Wow, 30 seconds is a decent delay. I have always wondered how the regions got the fee before the days of sattelite. I’m begiining to think that shows like Sale of The Century were also sent out on relay nightly like news & current affairs.

Back in the 1970s, one TV Times reader complained that TCN9 in Sydney was editing episodes of Days Of Our Lives to make up for The Mike Walsh Show running overtime, but claimed that NBN3 in Newcastle was showing the same episodes unedited.

TV Times got a statement from Nine that said: “TCN9 denies Days Of Our Lives has ever been cut. Nine sends Days Of Our Lives by cable to Newcastle.”

So it appears that there was at least a cable link between Nine and NBN3. I wonder if other regional channels like WIN4 perhaps had the same?

I’d say that VFL matches were known on occasion to run overtime, depending on amount of goals scored, etc.

There have been some occasions that Seven cut coverage of matches that go overtime, for example in 1985 the Sydney Swans v Fitzroy round 3 game at the SCG ran past 5.00pm and they did not telecast the last five minutes, cutting to go to its scheduled 5.00pm programme. This game was famous for being the first Fitzroy win on Sydney soil.

Of course, Seven has stuck with matches past 6.00pm in recent years, even when games started at 3.20pm.

I reckon this is part of their strategy to get viewers to stick around for the news which was immediately after.

When Seven got the rights back in 2007, the Sunday afternoon match was delayed by one hour (though still shown live in Sydney and Brisbane) so as to feed it into the 6:00pm news which was (and still is) struggling in the ratings. Then, in 2012 this match was rescheduled to start at 3:15pm (later 3:20pm) so that Seven could show it live in Melbourne.

Though if matches finished earlier, this would’ve given viewers the chance to switch to Nine without missing the opener.

Never knew Brian Henderson used to be on Seven.

But from what I can gather, he started presenting Nine News Sydney that year (1964) so surely that episode of Bandstand must be a repeat.

There was no Channel 9 in Perth in 1964, TVW7 was not linked to any network and carried programs from both Seven and Nine networks from the east coast. Bobby Limb’s Sound Of Music, on TVW7 at 7.30pm, was also from Nine in Sydney.

Even when Channel 9 started in 1965, both TVW and STW formed a single company to buy programs from the networks and would distribute any programs they bought between them.

STW9 didn’t become an affiliate of the Nine Network until 1978. TVW7 didn’t formally join the Seven Network until the advent of NEW10 in 1988.

Bandstand used to air on HSV7 in Melbourne for the first few years of its run.

Going through my TV Week’s I got online a few years ago and found this guide which I think is worth uploading from Monday June 29 2009.

Hope this is readable.
This was the premiere date of Nine’s attempt at breakfast TV in the afternoon, titled This Afternoon. This show did not have much luck, with co-host Mark Ferguson quitting Nine at the end of the show’s first week, and dismal ratings. The program was axed after just 2.5 weeks.
Also, Masterchef over on Ten was in full swing, with just three weeks to go.
This was also three days after Michael Jackson died.

halcyon days of ABC2. Wish they’d rebrand as ABC2, the comedy name restricts the content too much and doesn’t allow them to be as flexible. It should just be a younger formatted station, with edgier content and still lots of comedy.

The good old days when TV Week would show each program of the day - even if it is in smaller print - compared to now where programs on stations like ABCKids (ABC2), ABC ME (ABC 3) and SBS Food have many “Morning Programs” (or “Children’s Programs”) listed for quite a few hours in the morning, and/or “late programs” listed for many hours late at night.

In 2010, good to see All Saints airing at 2pm. I forgot that Seven would air Australian dramas in that slot. And up against the popular Ready Steady Cook on Ten too.

The change to ABC Comedy is very limiting. I watched it far more as ABC2. I very rarely bother with ABC Comedy apart from the occasional rerun of Spicks & Specks
