Merry Christmas to all of you here at MediaSpy!
I always remember as a kid in the 90s, channel 7 (HSV7) would always show Childrens Christmas programs throughout the day. This tradition seemed to phase out around the mid 2000s. However, they still show the traditional Christmas themed midday movies every year.
The last few seasons ended up hidden out of prime time well after airing in the US. The series was well-past it’s used-by-date.
Only five seconds out of the whole episode, lol.
That probably explains the double listing for Anthony Hudson across the two games of footy on Ten with only 30 mins gap between them. Would’ve been a 2pm start for the Carlton v Port match.
I remember An Australian Christmas at Darling Harbour being on Ten and then Seven for a decade. It raised money for Wesley Mission.
Merry Christmas from the other side of the Pacific

Re the Christmas schedules on the commercial channels - were the programs still locally scheduled in 1989? It would be interesting to see the variations in programs between the five metro markets. I would have assumed that some interstate stations would have opted to carry a common schedule and take a feed from Melbourne or Sydney due to skeleton staffing?
I don’t remember Simone Semmens presented Seven News in 1989. Last month she was jailed for 34 months for tax fraud.

TV Guide Flashback Sydney, Southern NSW and Newcastle 28 December 1989, the day of the Newcastle Earthquake thirty years ago today. NBN TV went off the air when the earthquake hit and the schedule was significantly disrupted. Channel 7 did air an hour long bulletin that night but obviously it isn’t mentioned here as it was a late change.

Do you know how long NBN went off the air for?
A few hours at least. I wasn’t watching all day but being in Muswellbrook at the time and getting it on Channel 10 I thought it was odd that the test pattern with tone was on mid morning.
After that whenever I did spot it it was a news update where the studio was virtually in darkness. Figured they were trying to conserve power
I remember them coming back on around 2.30. We were holidaying on the central coast, living at Harrington on the mid north coast.
Coca-Cola Power Cuts, I remember that show. From memory it started off as a Saturday afternoon hour long show, then moved to Sunday afternoons and then finally a daily 30 minute show. It was a music video show that used a lot of animated graphics to make it look cool.
