@Michael_S I haven’t known those people, though. Never.

What a night!!! Falcon Crest and Dynasty back to back. I’d be very happy with that. Also EastEnders and Family Ties on Channel 2.
Don’t forget The Godfather at 8:30!
@LiamP In the 1980s TVNZ had decided to split “The Godfather” and its sequel, “The Godfather II”, into two parts which would be shown across two different nights instead of the same night.

Today’s TV: Monday 31 March 1980
from the NZ Listener
In 1980, TVNZ brought back the regional news magazine programmes in the four main centres: Top Half (Auckland), Today Tonight (Wellington), The Mainland Touch (Christchurch) and 7.30 South (Dunedin). In their first two years on air, all four regional magazines screened on TV One (now TVNZ 1) at 7.30pm and ran for half an hour.
In 1982, the regionals were incorporated into the network news bulletin (at 6.30pm) with Dunedin’s 7.30 South rebranded as The South Tonight. Each region would break out from the network news for a 20-minute regional programme before returning to the network news for the weather.
And on the evening of Tuesday 23 October 1984, the regionals celebrated their respective 1000th editions (see below for an article courtesy of the NZ Listener).
In 1989 the regionals were transferred to TV2 (now TVNZ 2) in the new timeslot of 5.45pm, and Top Half and Today Tonight were axed later that year. In 1990, with support from NZ On Air, The Mainland Touch and The South Tonight were transferred back to TV One and screened immediately after the Māori news programme Te Karere (live at 5.20pm in the North Island, delayed at 5.35pm in the South Island) and before the network news.
Both programmes were axed altogether at the end of 1990. Their final broadcasts were on the evening of Friday 14 December 1990.
