Still using the 1999/2000 “New Millennium Television” gold Nine on the Christmas Carols performance segments, I see!
The “Perth Delayed Telecast” super is probably for a cricket match at the WACA? I’d imagine viewers of Nine in the Eastern states would’ve seen live coverage of that one.
That looks like the SCG, not the WACA.
Yes it is. So they delayed games from the east coast into Perth back in the day did they? Maybe to keep the schedule consistent with that of Sydney/Melbourne?
Well in that case, I stand corrected.
I thought SCG cricket (whether Tests or ODIs) is usually held in January!

To quote @mubd from a few years ago, good doggy!
Sorry, couldn’t resist…
Back then, Nine trialled a weeknight edition of (the traditional) Millionaire in an attempt to boost ratings for its Sydney news bulletin, which was starting to lose viewers to the Ian Ross-presented Seven News. But it backfired and TPIR returned to the timeslot the following week.
It wasn’t until 2009 that Nine would revisit the timeslot, which had proved to be a poisoned chalice in the second half of the noughties, with the current Hot Seat format which later began to overtake Deal or No Deal in the ratings; that would lead to Nine News reclaiming the 6pm crown on the east coast.
With Wimbledon that night delaying the (already delayed) NRL, I wonder at what time did the match between the Wests Tigers and Sydney Roosters began the following morning. Must’ve been sometime after 4:00am.
In Sydney/Brisbane, the AFL would also be pushed into the early hours of Saturday morning during Wimbledon and the British Open (I think that event would’ve been a few weeks after the tennis).
I recall a 5am start for the AFL (NSW/QLD)/NRL (VIC) replay.
Once, in 2004, the Melbourne Storm played a Friday night home game against then-reigning premiers the Penrith Panthers at Olympic Park Stadium (which has since been demolished), but even then, the match was delayed until after Wimbledon coverage.
Even if the Storm were playing in a Channel Nine match, GTV would always bury it in the graveyard timeslot (though between 2002-06 this was due to the AFL), and it continued until 2012 when Nine were given the green light to show live NRL coverage on Gem.
The AFL match played that evening was between Essendon and the Kangaroos.
Loved that ident!

Somebody noticed my Nine Tape from 2004? That’s quite neat. Maybe once i get a good capture card, i can get cleaner versions of those.
EDIT: I have recorded a bit of it and i will show you some parts of it.
