I wonder if it will be DC, who replaces Rabbit?

What’s the full name of DC?

Dan Cassin.

What makes you think him? Hasn’t he been on Nova still?

From my understanding he lives on the Central Coast and was broadcasting his show from Star 104.5 to Nova 106.9. He is also a very experienced DJ. Which could be utilised in Breakfast, however that would mean a change in the workday schedule for Nova 106.9.

Who else internally do they have for a replacement ? I don’t think they would put a newbie straight out of radio school into Breakfast in a market the size and importance of the Central Coast.

I am probably completely wrong here with my prediction.

Could Maz Compton or Matt Baseley be joining since Hit got rid of them?

Maz Compton is replacing Rob Palmer on Triple M

Matt Baseley would be a great asset to Star104.5. It’d be interesting if that happens as he’d go up against his old co-host Maz on Triple M Central Coast.

Still, a shame as Rabbit was a strong (and established) announcer on the Coast.

Maybe Rabbit will return to workday metro announcing on the Nova Network? I personally would like to see Rabbit return to local workdays on Nova96.9.

Doesn’t really matter, so long as there’s a half compelling breakfast choice, audience will keep listening to Star because it wins by local research and programming of its music.

Sarah King and Paddy’s sad end on breakfast at 2GO was due to the reverse of this, losing local music programming, it was the awful music format that undermined their success at breakfast.

If you remember when 2UE was at its peak, the strength of Stan Zemanek and John Kerr at night and middawn meant audiences switched off with them and woke up, switched on the radio and kept listening to Alan Jones at breakfast.

On the Central Coast in 2023, audience drives home with Hayden Else for the music and then switches on in the morning to Star breakfast.

I only just heard this news today when Rabbit mentioned it on air talking about their final show of the year. Then he said his final show at the station too. When was this announced?

I don’t know about that. People I know who have worked with him say he’s very difficult to work with. Demanding. Unless star want to take a different direction from Rabbit?

Why did SCA not re-purpose him elsewhere and just let him go? Worthy talent are worth holding onto. Now more than ever.

I can’t speak for Matt, but SCA have let many worthy talent leave when they’ve axed their regional breakfast shows. Quite a few of whom have found and had success in one of the limited positions available at their competitors. There’s not much room to retain talent when there’s job cuts purely for the sake of reducing the head count.

Very true. I listened to Nick, Jess and Ducko a lot in Newcastle. Was a great show. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nova pick Nick Gill up and place him into Star 104.5 breakfast. It would be a very smart move.

That’s actually not a bad prediction - Nick Gill on Star Central Coast.

Not Nick Gill, but another ex-Hit announcer:

Oh wow. Interesting.

Is Matty a better personality than Rabbit?

Only time will tell. Why did Rabbit leave?

I would have said Nick Gill is the stronger pick over Matt. Maybe he wasn’t available or still contracted to SCA for something?

Matt would have more local recognition having previously worked on the coast rather than Newcastle.

After not really listening to Triple M 107.7 for ages, I’ve been tuning to it more frequently these days, following the changes to Star 104.5’s playlist and sound.

It’s actually quite a good listen! A lot better than it was several years ago IMO.

Still doesn’t have Sarah King back and doesn’t have the local music log prior to the cutbacks that led to Sarah and Paddy’s demise.
