Apparently while NFL divisional game Rams-Bears tied 7-7 in the 2nd quarter.

What a way to bury it.

Oh dear god.

And this is why your RAM is now around $1,000 mark.

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss will reveal her plans for “the future of CBS News” during an all-hands meeting on Tuesday, according to an email she sent out to staffers on Monday.

Weiss is expected to announce a reorganization at the 11 a.m. ET meeting, the precise timing of which was kept under wraps until Monday, according to a CBS News insider. “She’s announcing a new structure and plans for the future of CBS News,” the source said.

The conference has taken place, but NPR had leaked some of the details before it happened: along with job losses, Weiss plans to hire “18 paid commentators (…) top-flight performers committed to her approach”.

The names of these commentators were received in the meeting: author, former Marine Raider and CIA Special Activities Officer Elliot Ackerman, longevity medicine author and researcher Peter Attia, MD, Iranian dissident journalist Masih Alinejad, author and academic Arthur C. Brooks, cooking experts Caroline Chambers and Clare de Boer, British historian Niall Ferguson, economist and Harvard academic Roland Fryer, Jr., controversial neuroscientist and podcaster Andrew Huberman, African-American political commentator and writer Coleman Hughes, pseudoscientific author and MAHA supporter Dr. Mark A. Hyman, theoretical cosmologist Janna Levin, Gen Z trends and youth consumer habit analyst Casey Lewis, former National Security Advisor to President Trump HR McMaster, former FT tech journalist Patrick McGee, conservative commentator Reihan Salam, fashion journalist and Puck contributor Lauren Sherman, and The Atlantic contributor Derek Thompson. As seen, most of them come from the Substack and podcasting world, and some of them have already contributed to Weiss’ Free Press.

Precisely, a pivot towards podcasting and digital media is what Weiss has been working on. The reason: she plans to make CBS News a must-see for the broader community of news aficionados around the globe, saying, “I am here to make CBS News fit for purpose in the 21st century”. This means CBS News 24/7 is moving to a schedule focusing increasingly towards televised podcasts, whilst retaining some breaking news content.

Furthermore, CBS has announced a new team to “correspondents” primarily to cover content on social media: Ukraine-based journalist Aidan Stretch, conservative political commentator and former BBC and GB News personality Inaya Folarin Iman, and political analyst Jared Oh-cha-cher. Additionally, the CBS newsrooms are evolving towards a “story-focused” approach, with content increasingly being digital-first, and the CBS News website increasingly becoming more video-based.

Furthermore, the CBS News management team is being strengthened with some of Weiss’ closest collaborators: COO Sam Siegel, Talent and Brand Team manager Sophia Efthimiatou, VP of Development Kyra Noonan, and Adam Rubinstein as one of four newsroom managers; the others are CBS incumbents Wendy Fisher and Terri Stewart, and former WSJ deputy editor Charles Forelle.

Additionally, Weiss is calling CBS News not a division, but rather a “masthead”, and considering it “the best capitalized media start-up in the world”.

Here’s the full memo to staff by Weiss:

Why the fuck does a news department need TWO cooking commentators? Hell, why does it need any cooking commentators at all?

I’ll raise you one better: Why even THIS MANY podcasters? For a news brand that claims to be “returning to everyday Americans”, inserting this many (probably) high-paying yappers seems hypocritical.

After the network had spent 2, 3 years installing VR setups in their owned stations contributing hours to the service… Great planning, guys.

Had she seriously not considered HERSELF is doing the opposite effect she desires?

And

I’m sorry, what?

I don’t think you get to call yourself a start-up when A) you’re working for a company that’s older than you and B) there’s a wealthy business daddy backing you up!

Oh, and uh, Miami got a newsroom makeover and a breaking news set. Yay.

Don’t you mean cooker or cooked commentators?

All Trump loyalists, I assume?

Translation: I’m running this place to the ground to please my Orange Overlord and Business Daddy.

Translation: nepo hires, ones who will bow to my every misguided whim, even though we’re more than likely going to be getting rid of people who are probably more qualified and experienced.

Translation: we’re rearranging chairs on the Titanic.

Are you surprised with how ugly this has turned out to be?

I mean, this was the invitation shared by NCS. Look at the design of this.

Why do we get a Didot invasion now? Is it the 80’s?

Oh, and there will be cuts. Sweeping cuts. I probably will read 60 being cancelled next.

god Didot has aged terribly

still an iconic CBS font, but thought they had something good with TT Norms

Sir Walter Cronkite would be rolling in his grave if he saw what poor-man’s Fox offshoot has become…

and the CBS Evening News has officially joined in with the new look (but with the still better, albeit slightly downgraded set!)

The set doesn’t look bad but everything else is horrendous.
This is such a dated package.

Thank goodness it’s not the newsroom set

The backdrop epitomises how dated the overall look and feel is - especially considering they had a really elegant package less than a month ago.

Why not use that set on weeknights?
