Why does it need to be?
If Nine can show Carols by Candlelight live from Melbourne on Christmas Eve, year after year, why canât Seven do the same with Carols in the Domain by showing it live this Saturday night rather than forcing viewers to wait another six days? Besides, both events will be held on a Saturday night this year, so ratings do not matter.
Even better idea for some chaos, have the two events live on the same day competing against each other. What can possibly go wrong other than ratings suicide for Channel 7?
This year they are held one week apart - Carols in the Domain on December 17 as mentioned above.
I mean, its a hypothetical scenario on what if both events happened on the 24th of December and competed against each other?
If it was on the same night Carolâs by Candlelight would rate much better itâs a far better production. Carols in the Domain was traditionally on Seven the week before Christmas and was on at such a time for years. I donât understand why Seven have now decided to change that arrangement. The program should be live there is no excuse other then Seven being cheap.
I was going to suggest Big Bash League (Scorchers vs Sixers) given theyâre desperately hanging on to a dying league. But that looks like a Fox exclusive game.
Domain carols are usually the Saturday before Christmas, but not Christmas Eve. Were previously always televised live. In recent years, partly due to covid, theyâve been done differently, and/or televised on another night. Think on a couple of previous occasions they were shown on Christmas Eve-eve and a Sunday night too?
Can I ask again? Serious Q - what is the issue with it not being live?
Worried about all the spoilers with the Christmas carols sung.
Speaking of spoilers, I do wonder when people buy Carols tickets from Ticketbooth website, that they have to tick the nondisclosure agreement that they wonât post videos and photos from the concert until it airs on Seven? Even though it is only a one week gap.
I hope people do post it then
Thereâd be no NDA. It would presumably be the same as any concert where capturing photography or vision would be discouraged with no professional camera equipment allowed.
They probably arenât going to care if people record Silent Night on an iPhone from distance because it would not dissuade people from watching the broadcast because the sound and vision would be well below a professional broadcast six days later. Itâs not really the kind of event that can be ruined that way unlike a taping of The Voice or a reality show.
Whatâs the benefit in putting them up against each other and effectively split the audience? Iâm sure there are plenty who would watch them both on their respective nights. Why force them to choose? Do we really need to have a battle over Christmas carols?
Thatâs the Christmas spirit and beneficial for both charities involved.
I am NOT suggesting that both Carols should go head to head on Christmas Eve. I am merely suggesting that Carols in the Domain should be shown live this Saturday, December 17, the night of the event, instead of the NSW and Victorian Schools Spectaculars currently scheduled for the night (they can air on a night when there is no live BBL).
Just want to point out that Seven loves to show Christmas events several days after they are actually held (Gold Coast Christmas Carols, Adelaide Carols by Candlelight, Perth Christmas Pageant, and Carols in the Domain).
Sorry if anyone misunderstood my previous posts.
I ask again, why?
Lots of posts in here saying the event should air live. Can someone explain why you feel this way?
Seven - the home of delayed primetime telecasts (from reality tv finales, to the carols).
Seven used to be good at live events. Not so much these days outside sports telecasts.
And yet thereâs no actual reason or explanation as to why the event should air live. Guess we can all sleep well again now.
I actually like the idea of it being on Christmas Eve-eve. I hope it stays this way in the future.
