There’s an old adage in radio that breakfast sets the tone/listenership for the remainder of the day.
Look at ABC. They’re up in that timeslot and down across the rest of daytime. Huge spike at night though (mostly at 2RN’s expense).
18-24 has some erratic movements - Hit halved, ABCNR reduced to rubble.
Mix 106.3 remain on top with 22.8% (+0.6 from last survey), followed by Hit 104.7 with 13.3% (-0.6), 666 ABC with 13.1% (+1.3), 2CA with 7.7% (+3.4), and JJJ with 7.6% (-1.1). 2CC went up 2.3 to 4.6%, whilst RN fell 5.5 to 3.9%.
The top 3 stations for each demo:
| 10-17 | 18-24 | 25-39 | 40-54 | 55-64 | 65+ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hit | Mix | Mix | Mix | Mix | ABC |
| 2 | Mix | Hit | Hit | Hit | ABC | 2CA |
| 3 | JJJ | JJJ | JJJ | ABC | 2CA | 2CC |
In breakfast, 666 ABC’s Ross Solly knocked Mix’s Kristen & Nige off the top, after going up 4.7 to 20.7%, with K&N only 0.3 behind at 20.4% (-1.6). Hit’s Rod & Gabi went up 0.2 to 11.9%. In drive, Mix’s Larry Appley won the slot with 23.6% (+0.6), followed by Hit’s Carrie & Tommy with 20.6% (+3.8).
The “Other Stations” share this survey is at 15.1%, up 0.4 from last survey.
Big win for the ABC, Mix still very strong as always despite the drops.
Radio National having a bad day today.
Hit104.7 lost their target 18-39 demographic and the breakfast show is struggling.
Yes, because Rod Cuddihy is so far outside the desired demo, it’s just try-hard. Gabi is quite good, but she suffers from being on air with Rod. Is he still the Content Director too? If so, it all sounds pretty egocentric to me…
An almost respectable result for 2CA - ranked 4th and up 3.4 points (or 80%).
RN took a dip in Survey 1 last year as well (though not as big a drop). Maybe the intellectuals tune out over summer ![]()
