Cada

Just rescanned this morning, and still not showing up. “National” indeed. Sounds like we’re not missing much anyway.

I’ve heard that they’ll update music slowly, which is why you’re still hearing Tiesto - The Motto and Acraze - Do It To It. Notably, The Edge were slowly bringing in these Hip Hop and RNB tracks. So to me, it looks like a soft launch.

I hope not, it is good to have some EDM to mix it up. If it is 100% RNB / Hip Hop it will loose it’s preset.

BTW the ads are very Nova when it launched.

A few songs and then one ad. All ads are national ads nothing Sydney.
The second ad in the block is a plug for the station.

It’s too early to tell. All station relaunches or key show changes go through this phase, even if they eventually become successful. Changes like this are done to be different, so no one can expect 100% of the audience to stick around. The aim is to bring in a new audience that will be better (either bigger, more engaged, more marketable etc) and the cost of that is losing some of the existing audience, and it’s always those most upset that will make a loud noise. Those that like the changes are less likely to voice their approval or even notice the change as significantly.

I emailed Cada and apparently there’s technical issues with DAB in Perth. They are working to resolve it ASAP.

It’s weird because the ident bumpers keep saying Cada is all about Hip Hop and RnB but they’ve added music like Maroon 5 - Girls Like You. Although it has a rap in the middle, it really is more a Pop song than Hip Hop or RnB and a staple of Nova, KIIS and 2Day.

Listening to the Dirty Dozen on Cada, the last couple of songs are full of swearing, no language warnings etc.

Never thought I would hear this on an Australian commercial radio station. Triple J gives language warnings. I am no prude, and the language does not faze me, but quite surprised never the less.

I’m sure the ACMA would take them to task on that if someone complained. I’ve never heard any other commercial station do that, its always edited out.

Was not edited out lots of Fing N’s in one of the songs. Very surprised to hear this on commercial radio, and with no language warning.

The only country I know of that broadcast songs with explicit language on commercial radio without a warning is the Netherlands.

I don’t think it was a slip up as there were two songs I heard in the dirty dozen on Cada that were explicit.

Triple J is very loose with the language warnings, and The Edge has never had language warnings before.

Helena Ellis just now: …We’ve still got the pop and the dance, we’re catering for everyone, but we’re standing by our roots of Hip Hop and R&B…

Heard Chameleon by PNAU in the last hour, I’d place that firmly in the Dance band-camp myself.

Seems if anything that they’ve widened the playlist considerably.

To put it in simple terms, The Edge is now sounding more like community radio and has lost its commercial sound & sharpness.

At the end of the day, radio is audio-based and if you don’t have a sound that’s “easy on the ears” then it will not work.

Out of 3pm:

Charlie Puth - Light Switch
Justin Wellington - Iko Iko

Keeping Up with Avneesha has an opening talkbreak (40 secs)

Two 30 second ad’s

Promo for Keeping Up with Avneesha (wouldn’t you place promos outside your own show?)

Lil Nas X - That’s What I Want
Alessia Cara - Stay

Very messy

Those were all part of the old Edge playlist…unbelievably, even Iko Iko. :face_vomiting:

It’s very confusing. They’re positioning themselves as “Australia’s home of Hip Hop and RnB” but all they’ve done is widened the playlist to include a few more of these and a lot more throwbacks.

That is exactly what I thought when I heard a snippet of their breakfast show this morning. Someone made a comment on Radio Today and called if AFTRS Fm.

I hope this is a slow, soft launch with no real marketing push yet because so far it just feels like The Edge with one or two extra Hip Hop songs an hour. For all the constant talk of this being a revolutionary new station for Hip-Hop and R&B, they’re blowing any first impressions.

There are way too many throwbacks. Iko Iko by Justin Wellington is just an old song Nova would play. Same with Circles by Post Malone. Ed Sheeran? Destinys Child? It’s totally misunderstanding the demographic and it’s not at all an evolution on other stations.

I really thought this would be at least new commercial music if it was looking to compete at all in a youth market / Triple J. Feels more like R&B Fridays, with promos that overpromise every 6 minutes.

I haven’t noticed Ed Sheeran yet, did they really spin him? The EDGE used to be my go to to avoid him. :frowning:

The promos become downright annoying after a while. I am already over their launch song.

Cada is really The Edge 96.1 playlist with their specialty Hip Hop shows during the day, and Nova’s never more than 2 ads in a row.
Nothing really original.
