They gave me an upgrade to a “high floor”, didn’t think it would be the top floor though.
It’s still just a standard size room.

Again, it’s at the Hilton.
Luckily it’s not the Paris Hilton, otherwise it’d be a mess and poor reception.
The rooms here have been refurbished too, I will check out the MATV system later and see if that’s been updated - I’ve stayed here before and their MATV system was not great last time.
I was looking at some of the ABC’s regional offices on maps yesterday and some of them look pretty good.
Here’s my top pick:
This is the ABC’s building in Mackay. Even though it’s my “top pick” I’d considered it to be tied to the ABC’s studios in Port Macquarie.
Now, I read somewhere that the old studios on River Street (which is literally on the banks of the Mackay River) were vacated because of flood risks, and I can relate. In 2008, a flood caused the station to go off air for 6 hours.
What are your best and worst ABC regional studios?
Please share the DTV Channel list, would love to see any differences, of course.
Funny on the Sydney map, on the 2nd page, it shows the callsign for ‘ABN - 46’.
Any information on this anywhere???
That’s one of the Central Coast translators.
UHF translator at Kings Cross for ABC Sydney.
Cairns and Alice Springs take the prize for worst. Sunshine Coast is in a strange building but it neighbours Grant Broadcasters, Nine/SCA and WIN.
Katherine in the Northern Territory is a unique one. Their office is inside the tourist centre which contains a small 2-3 desk office and a small radio studio.
Darwin has the biggest floor space out of all smaller cities. Has 2 TV studios, 4 larger radio studios and 2 smaller ones.
I believe ABC Broome is actually in a house!
ABC Gold Coast could do with a new building I think! For Australia’s largest regional market, the studios/newsroom is quite tiny.
ABC Gold Coast is heavily supported by the Brisbane HQ so they don’t feel the need to have a bigger office. If they were producing a local bulletin it might be different.
If they did move, it will most likely be a smaller space!
Probably in a broom closet… sorry couldn’t resist!
Inside the broken top loader washing machine out the back.
Of course Brisbane would pull the strings like that!
I agree. The design for Alice Springs makes it look like it’s “rusted” through three decades. But doesn’t Karratha have the same design? Shouldn’t they also share the last place?
If you look at this picture, you may think twice. But yes, you are partially right, it is in a house. A MODERN house.
Such a shame Sweet FA has come out of those Studios in the Last 20 Years other than those Infamous Noodle Updates.
Looking at the Video they got a lot of Edit Suites and they still got those old Studio Cameras with the CRT Teleprompters in their Production Studios which probably date back to the Ten Capital era if i’m correct or not.
There was that first class (not really) piece of television…The Uplate Game Show with Hotdogs in 2005/06!
Does anyone know why on earth it came from Canberra? Was it a SCTen program or just filmed there for some reason?
I think it had something to do with the fact that SC10 and production company Southern Star were under common ownership at the time.
I walk past where the old building was regularly; I like to remind myself how blessed I am to walk where HotDogs once graced us all with his presence.
