Why don’t they just rebrand to Nine?

As long as Nine is making money out of NBN, the name will remain.

The former WIN Television building in Orange NSW which has sat abandoned since last year’s closures.

Perhaps a little longer…

I believe WIN moved out about 3-4 years ago to a site just down the road. Near the old Bunnings Warehouse, across from Harvey Norman.

Had a Production studio out the back that was never really used. Would have been great for a Live N’ Local News Bulletin but was never realised.

Thanks @rock12, would you have any additional information on this? The building that @archtv posted was a decent size, so I naturally suspected there was some production space, good to have that speculation confirmed.

I worked there for a few months about a decade ago.

Pretty much everything was downstairs. The top floor could have been used at one point but there wasn’t enough staff/positions to have anyone up there.

If you were a visitor you walked through Reception. Adjacent was an office used by WIN/NBN Sales (they had a representative who lived in Orange). The other side of reception was an office used by the Station Manager.

Down the corridor, Sales was on the right and a staff kitchen on the left. Further down on the left was the Newsroom. Opposite was the edit suites. Further down on the left was the Commercial Production office and out the back was the Production Edit Suite and Archive.

Right out the back was a Production Studio. Pretty much a big empty space that was meant to be used for Commercial Production. Most regional TV stations I’ve visited or worked in have a similar space (not always used as a Local News studio) for chromakey or white space shoots.

The Newsroom windows are under the “WIN Newshour Billboard”

Thanks @rock12 - I remember driving past the building often as a child, always wanted to take a peak inside.

Found this too:

Yeah that’s pretty much what I remember (with a few variations).

It would have been nice to see inside CBN-8 when it was full of Live Productions.

Southern Cross Ten’s former Orange office was pretty much a rectangle. Was pretty much just a Sales office and a Production Edit suite. News updates were produced from Canberra at the time.

Some of the empty rooms on the right-hand side of the building (under billboard) - most rooms seem to be a big storage area for another business now. @Zacgb @rock12

Photos from inside building in 2016 I found on a real estate site. https://www.commercialrealestate.com.au/property/124-126-endsleigh-avenue-orange-nsw-2800-2012952014

Looking at google maps images it appears that the building was occupied by WIN in March 2018.
Perhaps this old building was being briefly utilised by WIN as well as the new one across from Harvey Norman up until the closures.
My understanding is that the new site is now solely used by sales executives and representatives.

It would have a vacant room where their Newsroom once was presumedly. It was axed June 2019.

Sorry to bombard you with questions @rock12, but regional newsrooms and studios have always been an interest of mine, so it’s great to have someone on here from an era gone by.

When you were involved with WIN Orange, how many people were employed? It’s easy to forget the behind-the-scenes staff.

Testing my memory here but:

1 x Station Manager
1 x WIN/NBN Sales Rep
1 x Traffic
1 x Receptionist/Sales Assistant
2 x Sales Reps (Orange)
2 x Sales Reps (Dubbo)
1 x Sales Rep (Bathurst)
1 x News Chief of Staff
2 x General News Reporters
1 x Sports Reporter
1 x General News Reporter (Dubbo)
3 x News Camera/Edit
1 x News Camera/Edit (Dubbo)
1 x Production Copywriter/Producer
1 x Production Camera/Edit

20 staff. Wouldn’t be a patch on that these days, but some based in Bathurst and Dubbo.

TCN Channel 9 is looking like almost nothing has happened.

The broadcast tower still stands.

Also when I was walking back to Artarmon Station, I saw them doing a news story and over heard them talking about “Well, it’s an end of an era here at TCN Channel 9.” That’s about as much as I heard before going to cut and do a retake.

Demolition work probably won’t happen until the new year?

A bit hard to tell by that pic, but given that he did the report about Willoughby which aired during the final pre-move Sydney 6pm bulletin a couple of weeks ago that could’ve been Mike Dalton?

… when Prime took over before aggregation, each of the existing local stations - Orange/Dubbo, Wagga/Albury, Tamworth/Taree had between 55 and 70 staff … the largest was Tamworth … Prime Wollongong started with 45, Canberra was around 60 … as on-air presentation was centralised the numbers dropped … WIN’s model was much more centralised from the start …
