Broadcast Facilities

Plenty of people in the area used to watch TV from Illawarra (Knights Hill) rather than from Sydney before the Vault Hill site came on-air in 2013. This is also reflected on WIN News Illawarra (as well as Nine News Illawarra to a lesser extent), in which they air plenty of local stories from the Wollondilly Shire, despite it being outside of the Southern NSW TV1 licence area.

I’ve edited my post so there’s no confusion, you edited the reply incorrectly.

WIN own the Razorback site which we share with C91.3 FM.

Axicom own the Vault Hill site, which is shared by all 3 Mobile networks & some other general comms companies.

There’s plenty of viewers in the area now watch the Vault Hill site not Knights Hill, it would be the site we get most complaints about if there’s any issue there.

Thirlmere, Tahmoor, Pheasants Nest & even Wilton, generally produce the most signal reception complaints all from the Vault Hill site.

My apologies.

That now makes sense.

But then how many signs do you want on the building or would the owner allow, before it get ridiculous & the neighbours in the units over the road complain about the visual mess?

You’ve got NOVA on the top floor directly below the sign, Smooth is on the floor below, then 2 floors below that you have 2CH, 2GB & 2UE.

Yes, you might want to change the sign from NOVA to Smooth, but then NOVA is the flagship station (even if it doesn’t rate as well), because the parent company is NOVA Entertainment, maybe they could change the sign to that?

Is that 2vm building an old govt building?

I noticed on one of those Mount Tamborine towers what appears to be an old Band 3 antenna aiming southwards to pick up the RTN8 off air signal for retransmission back in the old days.

No, purpose built for radio in the early 80’s. The whole centre is owned by the radio station & is called the 2VM centre with 3 storefronts downstairs

When would NEN9 have relayed RTN8? During GET (Great Eastland Television) days?

That’s about 350 kms… I think that’s too far for reliable off air TV…

I’m assuming it was to rebroadcast the RTN 8 signal off air to the Gold Coast on UHF.

Oh sorry, I was thinking of Mt Dowe, not Mt Tamborine … that’s what a few too many :beers: will do to me. Was looking at @hatdj 's pic then.

Guilty of PUI (posting under influence).

That first tower shown at Mt Tamborine must be pretty short, judging by the size of the FM array.

Wonder where that is?

I guess we’ll have to watch to find out, and to see what the challenge was…

Drove past this just before Christmas, very 80s but if it does the job…

Also, Now FM was the only thing that kept me sane on the Newell through that part of the world, so thank you. Although you lost me Wham bingo - I had made it 21 days through December without hearing Last Christmas until being tuned to 98.3

That’s unfortunate as I’m sure I was secretly proud of myself for making it to December 21st before… Wait, the 21st would’ve been a Saturday so that would’ve been from the Network so I’m off the hook then

Yes it was Saturday and it was the network feed (if 97.5 was anything to go by) so I guess I can let you off the hook (but not your network)
